“Well it’s about time you reviewed a makeup product.” That’s pretty much my brain yelled at me today (my brain does funny things). I mean, it’s a long time coming. I’ve had my eye on doing a few makeup reviews but I often like to test the makeup products over a span of time so I can actually do a semi-decent review of them. After all, I need some time for my face to either react/rebel/accept the test item and my face, like my brain, often has a mind of its own.

Today’s makeup item up for review is the MAC Mineralize Concealer. I picked up the MAC Mineralize Concealer ages ago but it took me this long to cycle around and test it out. I’ve used the regular MAC concealer before but was looking for something with a better ingredient list, something a bit more ‘natural’ for lack of a better word. The MAC staff that I spoke with suggested the MAC Mineralize collection and that’s how the MAC Mineralize Concealer ended up in my bag.

Back in December 2013, I did a review on Epicare, a funny little apparatus that’s supposed to get rid of unwanted facial hair. Back then, I was apprehensive about trying it but chose to tackle the product despite my wobbly feelings about it. Thanks to NailPolishCanada.com, I was able to try out Epicare and I liked it. A month later, I’m here to report on my current feelings about Epicare which sadly, are a little mixed.

Take a good long look at the pic on the left. Any guesses what it might be? It looks like a spring – true. NO, it’s not a loose spring from my bed or from my head (ha ha). It’s definitely not from my cell phone or from one of my cooking misadventures.

This lovely readers of ThingsThatWeDo.com is an Epicare. An Epi WHO? No, an Epicare.

I know, I had never heard of Epicare until a recent email from the folks at NailPolishCanada.com. NailPolishCanada.com just recently started carrying Epicare and contacted me in hopes that I might be willing to review it on ThingsThatWeDo.com.

When I got their email, the first thing I did was visit their site to find out more about Epicare and what it does. Any guesses yet? Well, here’s a hint: facial hair removal. Think threading gone easy high tech. Get it?

My first reaction: I was apprehensive. Do I dare try Epicare? It looked awfully creepy and so NOT what I usually use to remove unwanted facial hair (which honestly, is such a PRIVATE thing to talk about).

My second more rational thought: if I’m apprehensive about trying Epicare and had never heard of it before, most likely a large number of my readers would feel the same way which means it would be a good product to review for ThingsThatWeDo.com.

Thus, I thanked NailPolishCanada.com for sending me an Epicare to test out and promised I’d review it in full honesty.

So, who wants to read about good ol’ facial hair removal?

I don’t review a lot of makeup products because quite frankly, I’m lazy when it comes to makeup. I do my daily makeup routine to cover the lines, wrinkles, and dark circles but I can’t say I’m a pro at it. I’m also not a big fan of all the gobbly goop that’s in makeup. If I could afford organic everything, my makeup would be organic from head to toe but really, who can afford THAT?

So, I pick and choose and wait for sales and keep my eyes open and look for organic whenever possible.

AHA. Then I spot it: Physicians Formula Organic Wear 100% Natural Origin Jumbo Lash mascara! It was on sale and on top of that, it was a special double pack which helped to stretch my dollar even more. With the bonus, the Physicians Formula Organic Wear 100% Natural Origin Jumbo Lash mascara was actually cheaper than your average general brand of mascara. I was excited to test it out because it’s organically based.

Would Physicians Formula Organic Wear 100% Natural Origin Jumbo Lash mascara work as well as its non-organic cousin?

I’m not a huge makeup fan. Sure, I wear it but I’m not one to stay loyal to a product just because it has a big name. You certainly won’t see me sporting a million dollar eye shadow but that doesn’t mean I’m not cautious about what I use on my face.

When I first found the Alba Botanica coconut cream clear lip gloss, I was really interested to try it out. It’s not every day you come across a lip product that’s made with a relatively clean list of ingredients. I’m intrigued and I’m wondering how well it’ll work. Now, I’m not much of a lipstick gal. The most I’ll do is use lip balm or lip gloss so this Alba Botanica coconut cream clear lip gloss is ripe for a product test.

It seems like centuries ago since my last makeup product review but quite frankly, I don’t have time to go searching for new ones to test out. I figured out a while ago that I don’t want to go the conventional route. I want to find more natural make up products that match my skin type and complexion and that all takes time. On top of all that, I also want to test the product for a few months before I can safely give it a ‘yay’ or an ‘omg NO WAY’.

Well, I’ve been testing out this Zuzu luxe cream concealer for the past few months now and I think I’m ready to review it. I’ve used the Zuzu luxe cream concealer almost daily so I have a pretty good idea about its ability to perform and conceal the way I need it to.

Do you use mascara? I use mascara but I don’t really get all the hype about all the different types of mascara. To date, the only thing I think mascara does is lengthen your lashes and makes you look more awake than you really feel. Beyond that, I don’t see a reason why people need to spend big bucks on mascara. I truly don’t see any difference in performance across the different brands of mascara.

Allow me to introduce you to the Rimmel London Extra Wow Lash mascara. Now, I’ve used Rimmel London mascara products in the past and I’ve used other brands of mascara but this would be the first time I’ve ever used the Rimmel London Extra Wow Lash mascara and I bought it because it was on sale. If it wasn’t on sale, I assure you I wouldn’t have purchased it.

According to the packaging, this Rimmel London Extra Wow Lash mascara is supposed to give me volume up to 12 times. It has an oversized brush that supposed to make it easy for me build from soft to more dramatic looks. The Rimmel London Extra Wow Lash mascara apparently has a lash building formula so that I’ll get really defined lashes without clumps. It’s ophthalmologist tested and suitable for those of us that wear contact lenses and have sensitive eyes. All that in a mascara? Really…let’s see.

Long time ago, I did a review on another MAC product. This time around, I happened to go by a MAC counter and inquisitively asked if they might have a more natural product line. As far as I can remember, MAC makes great makeup but I’ve never really understood their ingredients. I’m no chemist so I really have no idea how good or bad something else but I can certainly try to figure some things out on my own.

Well, according to the MAC make-up artist, MAC does indeed have a more natural makeup line. Allow me to introduce you all to the MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural. I know it doesn’t sound grammatically correct but that’s what it’s called. The MAC make-up artist said this MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural is the more natural version of their Studio Fix foundation which comes in a compact solid form just like this one does. The only difference is, this one is made with minerals. Now, I’ve used the MAC studio fix once upon a time so this seems like the perfect product to compare and test for today’s review on ThingsThatWeDo.com.

A few weeks back, I did a makeup review on the Maybelline New York Eye Studio eye shadow in the purple icon colour quad colour palette. Well, I thought I’d follow up with a makeup review on a product from the same line but in a different colour. After all, one positive review might be luck but 2 good product reviews would definitely carry more weight. Thus, for today’s product review, I’m looking into the Maybelline New York Eye Studio eye shadow in the taupe temptress quad palette. If Maybelline has played their cards right, this taupe temptress quad should have the same feel and texture. The only difference, of course, should be in the colour right?

Do you change your makeup colours for the summer sunshine? This summer, purple seems to be the in thing to have. Vibrant and fun, purple just screams sunny warm summer days. I found this Maybelline New York Eye Studio eye shadow recently at my local drug store and decided to do a product test on it for ThingsThatWeDo.com. This Maybelline New York Eye Studio eye shadow seemed to be a no brainer. Maybelline had already chosen the 4 colours that would complement each other and on sale at $5.99, that was just a little over $1 for each shade of eye shadow. That sounds like an awesome deal to me. However, given all the different makeup lines out there, how does this Maybelline New York Eye Studio eye shadow compare? Price is one thing but it’s got to work to be worth the buy. Read on and find out!
