Honestly, I didn’t even know how to put that all together. I know they’re Triscuits made with brown rice and I know they’re from Christie. There were a million different flavours and I settled on the one with the tomato and sweet basil. I love tomatoes and I love basil so this seemed like a great cracker to snack on. It was on sale and I wanted something with a crunch that didn’t come in the form of a potato chip.

Let’s just say these Christie Triscuit crackers are not for the meek.


Product Review: What ingredients are in the Christie Triscuit made with brown rice, tomato and sweet basil flavour

Well, let’s take a look at the ingredients used to make these Christie Triscuits made with brown rice: whole grain brown rice, whole grain wheat, vegetable oil, seasoning (tomato powder, sea salt, sugar, onion powder, spices (with sweet basil), corn maltodextrin, garlic powder, yeast extract, vegetable oil, citric acid, natural flavour, paprika extract).

I’m actually surprised that I know most of the ingredients listed on the package. Quite often, I’ll pick up a box of flavoured crackers only to find a bunch of chemicals that I can’t pronounce. So, kudos to Christie for making this happen.

Taste Test: how about those Christie Triscuits?

Wow, these Christie Triscuits really pack a punch.

They’re definitely savory with a strong basil and tomato kick. They’re crunchy perhaps more so than the traditional Triscuit because of the brown rice. They most certainly put potato chips to shame in terms of crunch and flavour.

My one critique: they’re also extremely salty for my taste buds. The first Triscuit woke me up. The second one made me chug down a gallon of water.


Verdict:

Loved the flavour of the Christie Triscuit made with brown rice but did not love how salty they were. Would I eat them again? I’d be tempted to if they were less salty. Per 4 crackers (20 g), you get 4% or 105 mg of sodium.

The odd thing is, I did a quick glance and compared these Christie Triscuits with different crackers I’ve reviewed in the past and the sodium count doesn’t seem particularly high yet my taste buds beg to differ. Could it be that my taste buds have changed because our family has been consuming less sodium?

I’m not sure. I reviewed a different flavour of Christie Triscuits a little while back and I didn’t seem to mind the sodium at that time. Who knows?!

Sigh.
