I’m going to cut right to the chase and tell you that I love Pentatonix. I have since their Sing Off days. I’m a big fan of a capella. The capacity to sing without the use of other instruments fascinates me. There’s nothing to hide behind so you either can sing or you can’t. Pentatonix, a 5 member group, takes a capella to a whole new level of genius.

If you love Christmas music, you’ll want to check out Pentatonix’s latest Christmas album, That’s Christmas to Me titled after their original song. In true Pentatonix fashion, they breathe new life to classics like Hark! The Herald Angels Sing, Sleigh Ride, and Santa Claus is Coming to Town. Winter Wonderland has a neat new spin, infused with Don’t Worry Be Happy. I’ve never heard “Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy” performed only with the use of human voices. “White Winter Hymnal” is beautiful and completely boggles my mind (you should definitely check out their official video on YouTube).

I’ve always loved the song “Mary, Did You Know” but listening to Pentatonix sing it makes me want to cry. It’s captivating. My current favourite on the EP is an original song by Pentatonix titled, “That’s Christmas to Me”. It’s pure, it’s moving, and highlights the very essence of Christmas.

I listen to this Pentatonix EP “That’s Christmas to Me” every single day and I’m not kidding when I say that it puts me in a really happy festive mood. It’s a must for my Christmas holiday and likely I’ll be listening to it during the rest of the year too!

Verdict:

I actually lack the vocabulary to fully capture the magic that Pentatonix brings to music. With only 5 members, there is no hiding behind a massive crowd of voices. The vocals, the beat boxing, the arrangements, the deep bass, the ingenuity, I mean, I don’t honestly know what to say.

If you’ve never heard of Pentatonix before (you may have missed the earlier post that I did back in February 2014), please do a little research on them. In today’s age of singers who can’t sing, this group is an absolute gem. To do what they do, crafting perfect blends of music notes, beats, and harmonies with only their vocals is nothing short of brilliant. Check out their YouTube videos and if you want to supplement your existing music repertoire with serious talent, pick up their EPs.

You need to know Pentatonix…SERIOUSLY.
