I may not be a big fan of potato chips of late but there’s nothing like the draw of ice cream. I love ice cream, always have, always will. Mind you, I have expectations. I like my ice cream to be creamy, not frothy. I like decent ingredients and great flavour. Sometimes, I was smooth silky ice cream. Other times, I want ice cream with a lot of crunch and bits. When I found the PC Black Label Coffee Ice Cream on sale for under $4, you know I had to give it a try.

Product Review: What ingredients are in PC Black Label Coffee Ice Cream?

thingsthatwedo.com - pc black label coffee ice creamHere are the ingredients that went into making the PC Black Label Coffee Ice Cream: cream, milk, frozen egg yolk (contains sugar), sugar, coffee. The product may contain peanuts and tree nuts. Ice cream base is made with 100% Canadian milk.

Notice how you can pronounce every single ingredient on this list? That’s amazing. I mean, ice cream shouldn’t be a mishmash of scientific terms that no one can decipher. Base ingredients like cream, milk, egg, sugar, and coffee are like music to my ears.

Given that it’s a coffee based ice cream, I think I might prefer to have coffee listed a little higher on the ingredient list. Then again, given that it’s ice cream and with such a sparse ingredient list, coffee really can’t rise much higher on that same list. It could possibly go before sugar but that’s about it.

Overall, I’d say the ingredient list for the PC Black Label Coffee Ice Cream is very very impressive.

Taste Test: PC Black Label Coffee Ice Cream

thingsthatwedo.com - pc black label coffee ice creamTake a look at the PC Black Label Coffee Ice Cream. Know what I love about the way this PC Black Label Coffee Ice Cream looks? It melts! That sounds like a ridiculous comment unless you’ve paid attention to HOW some other brands of ice cream melt and then you realize they don’t all melt the same way.

Some melt and have an awful foamy, frothy appearance which is a complete gross out for me. Others seem to take an unnaturally long time to melt which again, completely creeps me out. Not so with the v PC Black Label Coffee Ice Cream. Shortly after scooping out my test portion of the PC Black Label Coffee Ice Cream, it began to melt. It’s got a creamy, silky melt and that is a good sign.

So, how does the PC Black Label Coffee Ice Cream taste? No doubt, this is one smooth, creamy ice cream with a gentle hit of coffee. It’s sweet but not overly so. Despite having cream as its first ingredient, the PC Black Label Coffee Ice Cream tastes incredibly light on the palate. The only thing is, truth be told, this coffee flavour may not be for all coffee lovers.

The PC Black Label Coffee Ice Cream tastes like coffee candy or at least it reminds me of coffee candy but without that bitter kick. I have no idea what kind of coffee went into the PC Black Label Coffee Ice Cream but it doesn’t taste like a dark roast and it certainly doesn’t taste like an espresso. It’s definitely on the lighter, sweeter side of the coffee spectrum. My daughter who’s never had coffee before asked to try it and actually really liked it and she’s not a big fan of bitter foods.

Verdict:

thingsthatwedo.com - pc black label coffee ice creamDid I like the PC Black Label Coffee Ice Cream? On sale and under $4, it’s a great bargain but I know I would never pay full price for it. I don’t pay full price for ice cream ever since it’s not a food item I need. I prefer to only buy ‘wants’ on sale.

I still haven’t answered the question though. Do I like the PC Black Label Coffee Ice Cream? I think I do…I mean, I like coffee. I take mine with sugar and cream so it does slightly remind me of the coffee that I drink except something was missing from the PC Black Label Coffee Ice Cream. In my ideal world, I think I’d want a slightly stronger coffee taste in the PC Black Label Coffee Ice Cream. It was a little too light for me and almost reminded me more of a caramel ice cream than a coffee one. I don’t hate it. I actually liked the PC Black Label Coffee Ice Cream. I’m just not doing back flips.

thingsthatwedo.com - pc black label coffee ice creamNow, in terms of ingredients, I would certainly take the PC Black Label Coffee Ice Cream over many other brands. I would at least consider buying it again in the future which is more than what I could say for some other brands that are out there. I think it would also pair really well with a lot of sweet chocolaty desserts that are out there. If you see the PC Black Label Coffee Ice Cream on sale in your local Loblaws, why not give it a try? If you do, let me know what you think!
