I used to chew gum a lot. Over time, I stopped chomping on gum because I didn’t like all the junk that went into your average stick of chew. A while back a friend told me that she’d switched to chewing pur gum. I shrugged and didn’t think much about it.
Fast forward a few months and guess what I picked up? A bag of pur cinnamon gum at my local health food store. It was there and I had an “I want to chew gum” moment and home it went with me.
Product Review: What ingredients are in the pur cinnamon gum?
Here is the list of ingredients that went into making the pur cinnamon gum: xylitol, gum base, gum arabic, glycerol, natural flavors, carnauba wax, tocopherols.
Have a look at the conventional pack of gum and I’m pretty sure the list is a lot longer and a lot more complicated. Notice how there’s no aspartame on the ingredient list! So, kudos to the folks at pur. The decent ingredient list is one of the main reasons I picked it up in the first place.
Product Review: so how’s that pur cinnamon gum?
I want to like the pur cinnamon gum, I really do and it starts off okay. It has the signature crisp outer shell and shape that many of us would recognize.
Give it a squish and the outer shell cracks to reveal the actual gum base. (note: I did not chew this. That would be gross. In this pic, I snapped the piece of gum in half).
The pur cinnamon gum starts off with a nice cinnamon kick and it has a great chew to it BUT the flavour doesn’t last very long. Before you know it, the cinnamon kick has dampened to become nothing more than a figment of your imagination. So, while it may start off like a home run, it kind of fades into just a base hit.
I have high hopes for pur gum and I want to be completely ecstatic about it. As it stands right now I’m lukewarm. I may decide to try another flavour to see how it stands up to a few more chews. Choosing a new flavour will be tricky though because they have a lot of different options so that’s a nice bonus.
Now, don’t get me wrong. Despite the fact that the flavour seems to dissipate more quickly than I’d like, I’d still rather chew pur gum over any other brand that is full aspartame and ingredients I can’t pronounce.
Hm…I’m going to think about this one a little longer.
