Allow me to introduce you to this very unassuming bag of belVita Cocoa Breakfast Bites. I did not buy this bag of belVita Cocoa Breakfast Bites. No, I did not. It came to me as a free sample and as a wise family member once told me: “You don’t say no to free samples.”
Truth be told, the folks are belVita are quite lucky I received this bag of Cocoa Breakfast Bites as a free sample because I guarantee you I would have never bought this myself at the grocery store. It’s simply not something I would be interested in buying.
Question is: how are these belVita Cocoa Breakfast Bites?
Well…personal preference is personal preference.
What ingredients are in the belVita Cocoa Breakfast Bites?
Here are the ingredients that went into making the belVita Cocoa Breakfast Bites: whole grain wheat flour, enriched wheat flour, golden sugar and/or sugar, vegetable oil, chocolate chips (sugar, unsweetened chocolate, dextrose, cocoa butter, soy lecithin, natural flavour), whole grain rolled oats, rye flour, cocoa powder, unsweetened chocolate, baking soda, sodium acid pyrophosphate, salt, soy lecithin, asparaginase, natural flavour.
I’m not going to comment much on the ingredient list for these belVita Cocoa Breakfast Bites because I have a more pressing question: what is the purpose of these belVita Cocoa Breakfast Bites?
Are they a snack? Are they a breakfast replacement? Are they breakfast? Are they supposed to tie me over when I feel like a bear in the morning? It’s got fibre, whole grains, but I still haven’t figured out what I should do with them.
Now, you may ask me ‘Why? Who cares? Does it matter?’ and I’ll say, ‘Yes, it matters to me.’ because you see if these belVita Cocoa Breakfast Bites are designed to be my breakfast replacement then I’m going to be a lot pickier in terms of the ingredients list. If it’s supposed to be a snack item, I’ll be a bit more lenient knowing that I would have likely eaten something a little better earlier that day.
I mean, this one little package is supposed to give me 12% of my daily intake of fibre but it also packs 12% of my daily intake of fat? At the same time, it also gives me 15% of my daily intake of iron and yet it gives you 12 grams of sugar? HUH?
So, you see, perspective counts.
And how did the belVita Cocoa Breakfast Bites taste?
Uh, crunchy. Definitely crunchy. Um, like crunchy cocoa. Not too sweet but not like a cracker. Like dry cereal, maybe? Not like chalk but then again, I’ve never had chalk so how would I know?
Wait, let me try this again.
The belVita Cocoa Breakfast Bites are crunchy with a noticeable hit of cocoa that isn’t too sweet.
That’s all I’ve got.
So, did you like these belVita Cocoa Breakfast Bites?
I have no idea. I mean, they’re not bad, they’re not great, they’re not terrible. They’re just there.
So, then I guess the bigger question is, did I like them enough to eat them again?
Meh…like I said, I have no clue.
If they’re on sale and you’re feeling up to a taste test, go for it and let me know your thoughts!
