Before ThingsThatWeDo.com, I had never tried almond milk. I knew it existed but there was no reason to try it. I never intended to drink almond milk until one fine day when I happened to pass by a display of Blue Diamond Almond Breeze Original almond milk. I don’t know why, but it suddenly donned on me that I used to love eating Blue Diamond almonds.

Then I started to wonder what their almond milk drink would taste like. It was on sale for $2.19 so I decided to give it a try especially since it would boost up my daily intake of calcium! I don’t know about you but I sure could use some help in that calcium category. Now, the only question is: how does this Blue Diamond Almond Breeze Original almond milk taste?

Product Review: What ingredients are in the Blue Diamond Almond Breeze almond milk?

I flip to the side and read the list of ingredients that go into the Blue Diamond Almond Breeze Original almond milk. I chose the original flavour: filtered water (that’s good), evaporated cane juice, almonds, calcium carbonate, sea salt, potassium citrate, carrageenan, and sunflower lecithin. So…the Blue Diamond Almond Breeze Original almond milk isn’t just made with almonds and water. Hm…I’m not sure how I feel about this. Then again, I bet you none of the other almond milks use only almonds and water either.

I think I’m going to do a little digging into the different brands of almond milk when I’m done with this product review. Why? I think a comparison to other almond milks would help to give me some perspective on the quality of this list of ingredients in the Blue Diamond Almond Breeze Original almond milk.

On the one hand, it’s great that they used filtered water but should it be the first ingredient? Should evaporated cane juice be the second ingredient? At least almonds made it into the top three. Do I need sea salt in my almond milk? I’m not so sure. I’m beginning to realize that I’m opening up a whole new can of worms by testing out this Blue Diamond Almond Breeze Original almond milk

Product Review: how does the Blue Diamond Almond Breeze Original almond milk taste?

I’m definitely curious by this point and can’t wait to try it. I chill the Blue Diamond Almond Breeze Original almond milk and wait for my morning breakfast. The next day, I crack open the box of Blue Diamond Almond Breeze Original almond milk and have a good gulp of it.

Hm…you know, it tastes pretty good. The Blue Diamond Almond Breeze Original almond milk is smooth but not too thick. I’d say it’s a tad thinner than 2% milk which is good because I always found milk a bit on the thick side. In terms of flavour, I can definitely taste the almonds and the hint of sweetness from the cane juice. I have no idea what the other ingredients do but perhaps some of them help to thicken it. If that’s the case, I think Blue Diamond could actually do away with them because it is so not needed. I drank my cup of almond milk and it went down quite smoothly.

At the time of this post, I’ve been drinking the Blue Diamond Almond Breeze Original almond milk for about 3 days now and so far so good. I haven’t noticed any significant difference in me but I feel comforted knowing that I’ve upped my daily calcium intake. I also appreciate that each 240mL serving is only 60 calories if you get the original flavour. Some of the other ones like the unsweetened is even lower on the calorie count. It’s easy to add Blue Diamond Almond Breeze Original almond milk to my morning routine. No one else in the home wants to test out the product but who knows, they might change their minds one day.

I can see that it might take some time for folks to get accustomed to drinking almond milk because it is different than milk. The colour is a little different. It’s not pure white and has a slight off-white tinge to it which makes sense since the almond milk is coming from almonds after all. I prefer to give my Blue Diamond Almond Breeze Original almond milk a good shake before pouring it into my cup and although it is smooth tasting, you can see little particles floating around in your cup and there is (I think it’s almond) residue at the bottom of your cup.

Verdict:

I have to say that I’m quite impressed by the Blue Diamond Almond Breeze Original almond milk. Having never had almond milk before, I didn’t know what to expect. I can see that almond milk may not be for everyone because it is different than regular cow’s milk. However, if someone is lactose intolerant or wants another alternative besides soya milk, then almond milk just might be the way to go!
