Sometimes, you just need a snack. Sometimes that snack thought bubble appears when you’re at work. Sometimes, your friends at work happen to have snacks that you’d like to try.

Yep, here come the Crispers.

I don’t think I’ve ever had a bag of Crispers in my home. Odd, right? I’ve had them here and there but never thought to bring a bag home so it’s not something I often have. By now I’m sure many of you have had them before but I’m a relative newbie to the world of Crispers.

When was the last time I had a Crispers? I can’t even remember!

On this particular occasion, I wanted a snack and my pal at work just happened to have snacks for sharing. Out comes the bag of Crispers, little bite size baked goodies, coated with an all dressed seasoning. Bag gets opened and we all share and enjoy.

You see, that’s what life is about: moderation. I wouldn’t eat the entire bag of Crispers but shared amongst friends with good conversation and laughter and it becomes quite the event.

The Crispers hold their own.  They’re thin, crispy, and definitely flavourful – there’s no denying it. If I had to change the flavour profile at all, I’d suggest reducing the salt intake a bit. Given that they are so thin, they don’t need as much salt to accentuate their flavours.

Wait for it, here comes the big ‘but’.


So, what ingredients are in those Crispers?

Here are the ingredients that went into making these Crispers: enriched wheat flour, potato flour (potatoes, mono- and di-glycerides, citric acid), shortening (vegetable, modified palm), modified starch (corn, potato), sugar, glucose-fructose, wheat bran, salt, monosodium glutamate, sodium diacetate, glucose solids, malted barley flavour, baking soda, yeast, soy lecithin, spices, autolyzed yeast extract (onion powder, garlic powder, citric acid, sulphites, natural and artificial flavours, colour.

Wow, that’s a short list.

Sarcasm.

My bad.

But really? Considering the effort to make these snacks baked, I would have liked the same consideration put towards the ingredient list.


But at least I got to spend time with friends!

That much is true and that’s perhaps my favourite part of this post. We’re often so incredibly busy at work that we end up eating our lunches at our desks. In this one moment we all took 5 minutes to enjoy each others’ company, to chat and laugh while we munched on a snack.

Lesson learned: this is definitely a snack for sharing only


Why?

If I put my big brain cells to good use, I could come up with a long list of other savoury alternatives to enjoy instead of consuming that long list of ingredients. Most pretzels for example, are salty (too salty, I know) but their ingredient list is much simpler. Lentil chips, bagel with butter or cream cheese, oooh, how about a cheese bagel? That would be yummy…

There goes my brain and there’s no stopping where it’s headed.
