Snacks. I like crunchy snacks but potato chips just aren’t for me right now (which is probably a VERY good thing).  Although potato chips come in a ton of different flavours, I think I’m just bored of that crunch and taste.

In my ongoing search for crunchy savory snacks, I stumbled across this bag of Hampton Farms Hickory Smoked Virginia Peanuts. Peanuts are crunchy and these happen to be savory which is right where I’m headed.  Hampton Farms Hickory Smoked Virginia Peanuts  must have recently showed up at my local grocery store because I’d never seen them before. They were on sale (2 bags for $3.00) which seemed like a pretty good price to test drive a new product!

Besides, I was pretty sure they wouldn’t taste like a potato chip!

Product Review: What ingredients are in Hampton Farms Hickory Smoked Virginia Peanuts?

Hampton Farms Hickory Smoked Virginia PeanutsHere are the ingredients that went into making Hampton Farms Hickory Smoked Virginia Peanuts: peanuts, salt, natural flavors.

Ah…that catchphrase ‘natural flavors’. I always wonder what that means but you know you’ll never find out. I mean, ‘natural flavors’ obviously isn’t just one universal flavour since there are a ton of products out there with those two words on their packaging and they all taste different.

Do I fault Hampton Farms Hickory Smoked Virginia Peanuts for using ‘natural flavors’? I really can’t because I know a bunch of other products that I’ve reviewed use it too. It’s one of those things that I concede too knowing that I’m eating or testing a snack that might go into the ‘eat in moderation’ roster.

The good news: Hampton Farms Hickory Smoked Virginia Peanuts is only made with 3 ingredients, two of which are about as basic as basic.

Product Review: How do Hampton Farms Hickory Smoked Virginia Peanuts taste?

Hampton Farms Hickory Smoked Virginia PeanutsI’ve never had Hampton Farms Hickory Smoked Virginia Peanuts before so I was really curious to try them. For this taste test, both the hubby and I took a handful to try.

I have to be honest and say I’ve missed eating in-shell peanuts. There’s something so neat about cracking into the shell to find those little tiny peanut morsels. The Hampton Farms Hickory Smoked Virginia Peanuts are noticeably covered in their seasoning which I’m guessing is a mix of the salt and ‘natural flavors’. Once shelled, you can see that the peanuts themselves aren’t coated. In fact, just by looking at them, you’d probably guess they were plain roasted peanuts.

Wrong.

Hampton Farms Hickory Smoked Virginia PeanutsThe best surprise comes when you actually realize Hampton Farms Hickory Smoked Virginia Peanuts are perfectly roasted with just the right amount of salt and hickory flavour. Both the hubby and I really liked the Hampton Farms Hickory Smoked Virginia Peanuts and would have easily eaten the entire bag. Each ½ cup of Hampton Farms Hickory Smoked Virginia Peanuts gives you 23% of your daily intake of fat which is to be expected and only 6% sodium which is pretty good. I could easily go past that ½ cup serving and not feel too guilty!

Verdict:

Would I buy Hampton Farms Hickory Smoked Virginia Peanuts again? Yep, I probably would. Both the hubby and I liked them and I think they’d also be great as a party snack (of course, pending allergies and what not). With the slight hickory flavour, the Hampton Farms Hickory Smoked Virginia Peanuts would probably also be a nice addition to a homemade trail mix. Hm…I wonder how they’d taste on top of some chocolate ice cream. Despite the fact that it’s now November, I may just try this out! ¬
