thingsthatwedo.com - surf sweet spooky spiders

Halloween may have come and gone but we are definitely enjoying the treats that came with the event. As a Halloween treat for my big kid, I picked up a pack of these Surf Sweets Spooky Spiders. We’ve had the Surf Sweet brand before so I knew these would be tasty and fun. The funny thing is, neither one of us is particularly fond of spiders (family and friends can attest to my dislike of these 8 legged creatures. Granted Charlotte’s Web softens my perspective a little bit but just a LITTLE bit)!
Product Review: What ingredients are in Surf Sweets Spooky Spiders?

Here are the ingredients in Surf Sweets Spooky Spiders: organic tapioca syrup, organic cane sugar, gelatin, organic grape juice concentrate, citric acid, lactic acid (non-dairy), ascorbic acid, colors added (organic black carrot juice concentrate, purple berry juice concentrate, organic turmeric), natural flavors, organic sunflower oil, carnauba wax.

Thoughts on the ingredients? Well, they’re gummy candies so you kind of know what you’re getting in to. Having said that, I love that the Surf Sweets Spooky Spiders are made with organic fruit juice, it doesn’t have any corn syrup in it, and there are words I recognize on that list.

The funny thing is, the Surf Sweets Spooky Spiders actually give you 100% of your daily vitamin C intake per serving which is about 4 spiders (ugh, can’t believe I just said that!). I mean, that’s pretty impressive!

Taste Test: Surf Sweets Spooky Spiders

Okay, do I really need to tell you that the Surf Sweets Spooky Spiders were yummy?

Of course they were! The Surf Sweets Spooky Spiders were chewy, gummy, tart, and sweet. I have to admit, it was a little creepy for me to chomp down on a spider even if it was just a gummy!

Then again, maybe we shouldn’t take it for granted that these Surf Sweets Spooky Spiders are delicious because we’ve had some gummy candies from different brands and they did NOT taste good. Some actually tasted like soap (not that I’ve had soap before but that’s how I’d imagine soap would taste) and others tasted like medicine.

Surf Sweets Spooky Spiders are a definite yum.

Verdict:

There’s no denying that each and every one of us will have some candy at some point in our lives. The key of course, is moderation. Imagine how much better candy snacking would be if we had better options like these Surf Sweets Spooky Spiders. Although these 8 legged creatures are not my favourite, I did like how they tasted and they were a better option than the generic gummy worm with a different ingredient profile.

As an added bonus, Surf Sweets also donates a portion of the sales to support environmental organizations. That’s pretty cool and something more companies should do. Some might say ‘but it’s only 1% that they’re helping with’ which might be true. But, let’s face it, there are plenty of organizations who won’t even offer that 1%.

So, a big yes for these Surf Sweet Spooky Spiders! They’re tasty and spooky, how often do I ever get to say that?!
