I’m in the mood to try something a little outside my comfort zone but not much. It’s been a hard week and there’s only so much change that I can handle at one given time. I spot the Earth’s Own Original Almond Beverage on my grocery store shelf. I’ve never had it before so why not give it a try? Okay, I’ll be honest, the ingredient list isn’t stellar (it’s got canola oil and you know how I feel about that) but it isn’t enough to completely scare me away.
Given my tired state of mind today’s post will be a relatively short one but I’ll try my best to entertain!
Product Review: What ingredients are in the Earth’s Own Original Almond Beverage?
Here are the ingredients for Earth’s Own Original Almond Beverage: Almond Base (Filtered Water, Whole Almonds), Cane Sugar, Tricalcium Phosphate, Canola Oil, Salt, Gellan Gum, Canola Lecithin And/or Sunflower Lecithin, Carrageenan, Natural Flavour, Vitamin A Palmitate, Zinc Gluconate, Riboflavin, Vitamin D2, Vitamin B12.
My thoughts…well, I’ve come to realize that almond beverages seems to have a wide range of ingredients that may go into them. Earth’s Own Original Almond Beverage chooses to use canola oil, others don’t. It also uses canola lecithin and/or sunflower lecithin. The filtered water is good but cane sugar happesn to be the second ingredient or third depending on how you want to count ‘almond base’. Don’t know why they bothered labeling it this way.
Product Review: How does Earth’s Own Original Almond Beverage taste?
So, how does Earth’s Own Original Almond Beverage taste? Um…like almond milk? It’s neither here nor there. There’s the classic nuttiness you get from an almond beverage and the texture is smooth and silky. The good news is it doesn’t taste too sweet. Given that it tastes the same as some of the lower cost almond beverages, I’m not sure why I’d pay more for it.
The Earth’s Own Original Almond Beverage is decent. There’s flavour, there’s body, and the traditional taste of an almond beverage. Like many other almond milks, Earth’s Own Original Almond Beverage has a high percentage of vitamin D and B12. I can’t say it’s overly memorable so when I factor in the cost of Earth’s Own Original Almond Beverage, I don’t see why I’d necessarily stick with this one brand when there are others out there that may be on sale. I’ve never been a fan of canola oil so I tend to reduce my family’s consumption of it.
If you’ve never had almond milk before, you can certainly give Earth’s Own Original Almond Beverage a try when it’s on sale. At regular price? Nah..wait for a sale.
