I was intrigued when I first saw the So Delicious Cultured Coconut Milk. Hey, a different way to eat coconut, I think to myself. It’s pricey, almost $6, but I’m tempted and it looks like it’s decent and hey, it’s even got chocolate which might entice my kid to try it.
What could go wrong? I like coconut, my kid likes coconut, it’s got some good stuff in it, we should be smooth sailing from here on in, right?
Normally, this is where you’ll see me tell you all the ingredients that go into a product. Well, I’m breaking format because I just have to get this off my chest: the So Delicious Cultured Coconut Milk in chocolate does not taste very good.
That’s the most polite way for me to say it.
I thought I’d like it. I thought my kid would like it. It’s coconut, after all. How bad could it be?
I try to be objective. I took the first bite and said very little. I let my kid try it and she makes this face and says, “I guess, it tastes okay” but makes this semi-frown and shrug. The So Delicious Cultured Coconut Milk with chocolate tastes like really yogurt with chocolate thrown into it. There is an aftertaste that I don’t find appealing. It’s not too sweet so that’s a good thing but as a whole, I found the flavour composition to be just off. I had to be honest with my kid and tell her I didn’t like it and she agreed that it wasn’t very good either despite being chocolate.
The So Delicious Cultured Coconut Milk has a very different consistency than regular yogurt. Take a look at the image and look closely.
Notice the sheen and the texture of the So Delicious Cultured Coconut Milk. The texture reminds me of an egg tart or a chunk of jam or crème brulee but I just can’t wrap my head around it.
There. I said it.
Product Review: What ingredients are in So Delicious Cultured Coconut Milk?
Okay, now that I said what I needed to say, for those of you who haven’t tuned out and want to know what ingredients are in the So Delicious Cultured Coconut Milk, here’s the list: organic coconut milk (water, organic coconut cream), chicory root extract, organic dried cane syrup, cocoa powder, rice starch, pectin, organic chocolate liquor, tapioca dextrose, algin (kelp extract), magnesium phosphate, tricalcium phosphate, locust bean gum, live cultures, natural flavours, lactic acid, carrageenan, monk fruit extract.
Organic coconut milk as the first ingredient is a good thing but seriously, something must have gone way off because some kind of pairing in there makes for a very unpalatable product. Now, I’m sure a ton of people out there must love the So Delicious Cultured Coconut Milk or else it wouldn’t still be in on the shelves at my local health food store and it’s not like I didn’t give it a chance. I actually tried to eat it for a few days straight and it never grew on me.
After all is said and done, I’m so NOT going near the So Delicious Cultured Coconut Milk ever again. Alright, maybe I MIGHT try it again but in a different flavour. It is entirely possible that it was just completely gross because it was a chocolate flavour. I’m disappointed that it didn’t taste as good as I’d hoped.
