It was hard for me to find something that I wanted to write about today. After Friday’s events I’m feeling deflated and unsettled. By chance on Saturday, I stumbled across this really neat YouTube video made by the Music Geeks that really showcases the history of Pentatonix. Nope, I’m not just talking about their Sing Off days. I’m talking about those EARLY days, like dating back to 2004 with Scott singing on stage.

How cool is that?

As I sat there watching the video, a smile grew on my face and it was a good feeling. Kudos to the Music Geeks for putting this video together. I am so glad I found the video.

So, on this Sunday of all Sundays, if you have some time, do yourself a favour and watch the video! I bet you’ll learn something new about Pentatonix. I know I certainly did.

As part of my daughter’s homework, she recently did a science experiment at home involving a few glasses of water and a little side dish of vinegar. In a few short minutes, she was absolutely mesmerized at the sounds that resonated from the glass cups when she gently brushed each glass rim with her vinegar laced fingers.

It was quite the eye opener.

Fast forward to today and I stumble upon 2 musicians from Poland called “The Glass Duo” performing Tchaikovsky’s Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy on a glass harp.

No, I don’t mean a harp made out of glass. I’m talking about a gabillion different glasses laid out on a table, each resonating specific notes to bring the song to life. It was absolutely mind blowing to watch Glass Duo performing their magic. I showed the video to my daughter and she was equally spellbound. So simple, yet so intricately difficult. I can’t even begin to imagine the number of hours it took for Glass Duo to perfect this song.

Things to do: take a moment out of your busy day today and watch the video. It might just be the best thing you’ve ever done on a Tuesday!

If you want to learn more about the Glass Duo and to watch some of their other performances, visit their YouTube channel by clicking on the link below.

This is how you make me love Sundays. Pentatonix recently released its latest album and while I’ve yet to lay my hands on it, I managed to watch one of their newest videos titled ‘Sing’. It’s uplifting, it’s fun, and it’s definitely a winner. My daughter and I bopped and danced around as we listened to ‘Sing’. It’s an original song from Pentatonix and I’m so proud of them. They are 5 of the most talented artists showcasing the beauty of acappella.

Gosh, where do I even begin to tell you how amazing they are? I mean, Pentatonix has the capacity to make original music AND sing it live. Take a look at their recent performance on the Jimmy Fallon show.

I mean, how many singers can actually sing live nowadays? That’s confidence and true talent.

Then, there are all the covers Pentatonix has done. I hate to say it but for me, their covers are often better than the original works. Take a look at this recent cover of Where Are Ü Now (Jack Ü ft. Justin Bieber Cover). I mean, I honestly didn’t even KNOW this song existed until Pentatonix sang it and once I heard their version, I couldn’t even listen to the original without feeling as though it was a little off.

Don’t believe me? See for yourself:

Okay, definite to do list: I NEED to get my hands on the new Pentatonix album.

Pentatonix.

I could end my post right there. I mean, what else do I need to say? At this point in time, you need to KNOW Pentatonix because if you don’t, you’ve got a lot of catching up to do. As if on cue, Pentatonix has yet another new video out. This time it’s for a song called “Where Are U Now” which I’m guessing is a song by Justin Bieber? I say ‘I guess’ because I honestly didn’t even know this song existed until Pentatonix sang it.

After watching the Pentatonix version of Where Are U Now, I did a quick search to hear the original song. Let’s just say Pentatonix rocks and I’ll leave it at that.

p.s. in case you missed it the first time, you need to watch their original song “Can’t Sleep Love”.

Well, what can I say? Pentatonix has done it once again. I think it’s safe to say that regular readers of ThingsThatWeDo.com know I absolutely love this a cappella group. They never cease to amaze me and it looks like they’ve done it again.

I’ve long since been a fan of their covers. Everything from Radioactive to Happy to Cheerleader to their compilations like “Evolution of Beyonce” and “Evolution of Music” have been favourites of mine. Then, they started producing some seriously awesome original songs like “Run to You”.

Well, now they’ve come up with yet another original “Can’t Sleep Love” and it’s brilliant. It’s got swing, it’s got a groove, it’s got rhythm, it’s got feel, it’s got everything I want in a great tune and the best part is, it’s all done with human voices.

I mean, that is an art form all on its own galactic dimension.

So, if you haven’t heard this song, “Can’t Sleep Love” then you definitely need to watch their official video released on YouTube.

p.s. if you need anymore convincing (which really, you shouldn’t), watch their video “Run to You”. Gosh, this song gives me goose bumps!

Only problem is, I now have to wait until October 16, 2015 for them to release their new album full of original content. If this song is any reflection of what the album will be like, I’m guessing Pentatonix is in for another great year!

thingsthawedo.com - inside out movieThe big kid and I haven’t watched a movie in the theatre in ages. No particular reason, there just hasn’t been time. We’ve watched a few movies at home (which note to self: we still have to review) but going to the theatres just seemed like a chore.

That is, until we saw the Inside Out trailer and decided a trip to the movie theatre was mandatory. Inside Out is a children’s animated movie that’s been in theatres for a few weeks now but boy am I glad we saw it in the theatres. Inside Out is a children’s movie that makes me think, it makes me reflect, and more importantly it reminds me of how important all our emotions are.

I kid you not, I cried 3 times while I watched the movie. There is so much I want to say and I can’t quite figure out how to say it all without completely confusing all of you. So, let me talk for a bit with fair warning that you might read some cryptic spoilers below. – Continue Reading

If you’re a regular reader of ThingsThatWeDo.com, you’ll know that I’m a huge Pentatonix fan. If you haven’t heard of them before, then you have some serious musical homework to do.

Pentatonix is the most brilliant acapella group on this planet (okay, I may be biased). A strong group of 5 dazzling minds, Avi, Kirstie, Kevin, Mitch, and Scott prove that instruments aren’t necessary to make beautiful music. They’re smart, they arrange their own music, they make their own music, they’re dedicated and hard working, and they sing LIVE.

Pentatonix is magic personified. I can’t quite put it all into words and I won’t bore you all with the history of the group. Do a quick internet search and you’ll learn more than you can imagine about them. From the Sing Off competition to 2015, Pentatonix continues to amaze me.

All I can say is Pentatonix is sheer perfection and they’ve just released a new video titled, “Evolution of Michael Jackson”. You’ve never seen a compilation of Michael Jackson’s work quite like this before.

Things to do: watch it! It was released just yesterday and it already has over 500,000 views.

Pentatonix “Evolution of Michael Jackson”

Yep, I am a fan.

Today’s post will be a short one because there’s very little I can say that will make much cohesive sense. I mean, don’t get me wrong, I could go on and on but that would be a bit obnoxious.

By now you’ve all seen the most recent posting by my big kid, Jenny, who reviewed Mr. Peabody and Sherman. Did she like the movie? Yep. Did I like the movie? Yep. Did it make much sense? Uh, I’m not so sure but I think that’s okay. It was good hilarious fun that made a lot of references that the adults will get a kick at and there was plenty of goofy stuff for the kids too.

Mr. Peabody and Sherman is one of those funny kids movies that has a lot of action and keeps the momentum going even if much of it makes very little sense. Read on for a few more details which really truly will make very little sense until AFTER you watch the movie!

Hi it’s Jenny writing for ThingsThatWeDo.com. I am going to tell you about Mr. Peabody and Sherman. My mom is typing for me. That’s why maybe some of her ‘communication’ may show up too.

We just watched Mr. Peabody and Sherman and it was good so first I should probably talk to you about the characters, shouldn’t I, shouldn’t I? If you read the Frozen review, you would probably know that I talk about the characters first and if you read the one where I did Halloween candy, you probably would know that I talk a lot.

Kid’s Movie Review: Mr. Peabody and Sherman – About the Characters

So, there is Mr. Peabody and he’s a dog obviously like it says in the title (mom moment: that my daughter came up with) and he’s “got a boy” named Sherman. Mr. Peabody went to college and he’s a really smart dog. He wears glasses and he made a machine called the ‘WABAC’ pronounced ‘way back’. It’s a time machine that takes you every where in the past and future.

The boy, Sherman, also wears glasses and he was adopted by Mr. Peabody because Mr. Peabody found him in a box that said SHERMAN.

Penny Peterson is a girl and she’s started out as a bully against Sherman. (I don’t know why). So then when Mr. Peabody invited her and Mr. and Mrs. Peterson to come over to their house she went on the WABAC and got stuck in Ancient Egypt and she ends up going to like King Tut’s place and then pretends to be his ‘wife’ and then Sherman and Mr. Peabody saved her and that’s it about her.

Kid’s Movie Review: Mr. Peabody and Sherman – The Story line of the Movie

So…in the beginning (sorry, something behind my tooth), the whole audience caught Mr. Peabody doing his yoga and then he told us the whole story which I’m telling you now. Well, maybe not the whole story. Anyhow, then when they went on their first adventure, Mr. Peabody and Sherman went back in time to that place where they were chopping off people’s heads. Ask your parents about that or tell your kids about it if you know about it. That is, if any crazy kids are reading this.

So then it was Sherman’s first day of school and that’s when he met Penny because Penny was in his class and I think she was being a bully to him because he was smarter than her. And then when they were fighting Sherman bit Penny and Mrs. Grunion tried to take Sherman away from Mr. Peabody.

Got to speed this up now because mom is ‘blah blah blah’ at me.

Kid’s Movie Review: Mr. Peabody and Sherman – Is this a good movie?

Yes. That’s all I have to say. Yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes.

Done. See ya ThingsThatWeDo.com fans next time!

Jenny.
