I have to confess (I seem to do that a lot on this site, don’t I?) that I love Reese peanut butter cups. For me, the original Reese peanut butter cup had the perfect ratio of peanut butter to chocolate. As a result, whenever I see anything that has the peanut butter and chocolate pairing, I can’t resist and I have to try it to see how it fares. Well, lo and behold, Loblaws came out with a new President’s Choice PC Peanut Butter & Chocolate Ice Cream and to sweeten the deal, my local Loblaws was giving out samples and it was on sale for $3 a tub. Twist my rubber arm! I tried the sample, okay, I devoured it, and had to buy a tub of my own to try at home under controlled environmental circumstances to prove that I wasn’t just swayed because everyone else around me was going nuts about how good it tasted.

Product review: What happened?

I bought the tub of Choice PC Peanut Butter & Chocolate Ice Cream and cracked it open after dinner. I knew it was something good the minute I tried to scoop it out.  Ever notice that there are some ice creams that are really easy to scoop and then there are others that are ‘bend the spoon’ stiff. Well, these 2 types of ice cream also have a different texture when they melt. I find the ‘easy to scoop’ type of ice creams has a tendency to leave this really odd frothy foamy texture in my mouth. For me, that’s not how ice cream should be. I find it off putting and gross. The ‘bend the spoon’ type ice creams have a different type of melt factor: they melt smooth, not frothy.

There is no way to describe it..you just have to taste it

The PC Peanut Butter & Chocolate Ice Cream falls into the ‘bend the spoon’ category which is my preferred ice cream category. When I put that PC Peanut Butter & Chocolate Ice Cream into my mouth, I get an immediate peanut butter explosion with the perfect balance of chocolaty crunchy bits. Whoever gave the final okay when they were experimenting on the chocolate to peanut butter ratio understood the meaning of true balance. The PC Peanut Butter & Chocolate Ice Cream is not too sweet, not too rich, not too peanut buttery or too chocolaty. It also melts in a really smooth way that leaves a pleasant nutty memory on your tongue and senses. The PC Peanut Butter & Chocolate Ice Cream also smells exactly as it should: frozen peanuty goodness and on top of it all, it’s made with 100% Canadian milk. Talk about local goodness, thank you President’s Choice!

Verdict:

I am definitely going to buy me another tub of PC Peanut Butter & Chocolate Ice Cream before the end of summer. Actually, I’m a little freaked out right now. The Loblaws website points out that the PC Peanut Butter & Chocolate Ice Cream is one of 5 new flavours for the summer. Does that mean it’ll discontinue the PC Peanut Butter & Chocolate Ice Cream after the summer? If so, I am in BIG trouble. This is one peanut butter and chocolate addiction that I may not be able to cure easily! If anyone with decision making power is reading this blog review, please keep PC Peanut Butter & Chocolate Ice Cream on the shelf!
