thingsthatwedo.com - nature-valley-roasted-nut-crunch-bars

Move over potato chip. See you later rice cracker. There is a new fave in town. I don’t know who came up with this concoction over at General Mills but I’m absolutely in love with these Nature Valley Roasted Nut Crunch Bars with Roasted Peanuts and Sunflower Seeds. Yes, it’s a mouthful but there are quite a few different flavours in this line up and I’m only vouching for the Nature Valley Roasted Nut Crunch Bars with Roasted Peanuts and Sunflower Seeds. I tried another flavour which paled in comparison so I’m not even going to mention it.

If you want crunch that reminds you of peanut brittle (but better), look no further. These Nature Valley Roasted Nut Crunch Bars with Roasted Peanuts and Sunflower Seeds are it. - Continue Reading

thingsthatwedo.com - pc elk crossing ice cream

I honestly don’t know how the folks at President’s Choice do it but they are constantly coming up with new ice cream flavours and new products in their PC lines. It’s an amazing feat and I’m sure a lot of research and brain power goes into every single product that makes it on to the shelf.

Case in point: Elk Crossing Ice cream one of the many ice cream flavours in the PC’s signature Ice Cream Shop flavours lineup. I was at my local Loblaws when I came across its yellow and white packaging. That tub of PC Elk Crossing Ice Cream spoke to me. Actually, I think it was calling my name or maybe the peanut butter cups that were in the tub of PC Elk Crossing Ice Cream were calling my name. I’m not sure which but I’m sure I heard something.

Either way, that tub of ice cream came home with me and I’m glad it did. - Continue Reading

thingsthatwedo.com - nature valley peanut butter granola thins

I love almost all things peanut butter because I’m a firm believer that almost everything tastes better with a dollop of PB on it. Ice cream? Definitely. Morning toast? Yep. Dinner? Totally.

I practically jumped at the opportunity to grab this box of Nature Valley Peanut Butter Granola Thins. It was on sale at my local grocery store for under $2. Look, I KNOW it says ‘peanut butter flavoured coating’ (translation: likely, not real PB) but I just couldn’t resist. I mean, granola plus PB? Come on! - Continue Reading

Snacks. I like crunchy snacks but potato chips just aren’t for me right now (which is probably a VERY good thing).  Although potato chips come in a ton of different flavours, I think I’m just bored of that crunch and taste.

In my ongoing search for crunchy savory snacks, I stumbled across this bag of Hampton Farms Hickory Smoked Virginia Peanuts. Peanuts are crunchy and these happen to be savory which is right where I’m headed.  Hampton Farms Hickory Smoked Virginia Peanuts  must have recently showed up at my local grocery store because I’d never seen them before. They were on sale (2 bags for $3.00) which seemed like a pretty good price to test drive a new product!

Besides, I was pretty sure they wouldn’t taste like a potato chip!

You see this jar of peanut butter. You see the name. It says Family’s Best. Question: do you really think it’s best?

The hubby picked it up at a local health food store mainly because the selection was limited and he didn’t want a flavoured PB.

He comes home with Family’s Best organic creamy peanut butter and of course, my big kid and I read the ingredient list. Guess what we found?

You know things are changing when big name producers are willing to change or modify their product lines. Who would have thunk it possible that Kraft would come out with an all natural peanut butter? I think I almost fell and tripped over my own two feet when I first noticed this jar of Kraft all natural peanut butter sitting on the shelf of my local grocery store. There it was sitting beside all the other junky PBs. The Kraft all natural peanut butter was on sale so OBVIOUSLY I just had to find out how it tasted.

OBVIOUSLY.

Yes, it’s now September and yes, I’m still talking about ice cream because when something tastes good, it deserves to be recognized. Now, we all know about the ice cream Drumstick, right? That signature ice cream cone topped with a chocolaty coating and peanuts, finished with a chunk of chocolate right at the tail end tip of the cone.

BUT!

Did you know the Nestle typical Drumstick now comes with PEANUT BUTTER???

Yep, that’s when Nestle got me and I just HAD to try them. The fact that they were on sale (box of 4 for less than $3) certainly helped because I rarely am willing to pay full price for ice cream. Now, for those of you who regularly visit ThingsThatWeDo.com, you know I’m a big PB fan and PB doesn’t always live up to my lofty expectations. Question is: will this new revamped Nestle chocolate peanut butter Drumstick rise to the occasion?

Skippy Peanut Butter has been around for years. The thing is though, I’ve never purchased Skippy peanut butter for my family and this is why: I read my ingredient labels and I’ve come to learn that not all peanut butters are created equally.

Allow me to introduce you to the Skippy Peanut Butter that was sitting at my local grocery store not too long ago. Turn it around to the back and here are the ingredients that went into the Skippy peanut butter: freshly roasted peanuts (a good thing), soybean oil (uh…what?), maltodextrin (uh…double what?!), icing sugar, hydrogenated vegetable oil (HUH??!!) and salt.

HUH.

HMPH.
