My big kid is a big fan of cottage cheese. She’s liked it ever since she was a wee one. She’ll happily eat individual cups of cottage cheese, plain if you please.

Now, I know regular cottage cheese probably isn’t made as well as it could be so I’ve been looking for a better alternative and I was ecstatic to find the Organic Meadow Low Fat Pressed Cottage Cheese. I figured this would be the perfect replacement.

Yeah…about that. – Continue Reading

Sometimes, I like to browse the aisles of my local grocery store. Who am I kidding? I love to browse the aisles. I don’t buy everything in the store but that certainly doesn’t stop me from picking up products, analyzing their contents, and doing some mental price comparisons.

On one particular occasion, I came across this jar of Penotti Speculoos Cookinotti cookie butter. I’d never seen it before. I was intrigued so I picked it up and read the label and then I promptly put it down.

Why? – Continue Reading

Coconut, you either love it or you hate it. Our family: we love coconut. In the past, I’d get coconut milk in a can to add to our curries and other yummy dishes. With the whole BPA thing floating around, we’ve eliminated canned goods from our home.

Translation: no more yummy canned coconut milk. Sure, I know it’s possible that not all canned coconut is lined with BPA but why take the chance especially when I have OTHER options?

Enter Artisana organic coconut butter. Back in May 2011 when ThingsThatWeDo.com first started doing product reviews, I featured a similar product by Nutiva. Since then, I haven’t really seen it in my local health food store. Why did I pick up the Artisana organic coconut butter? To be frank, it was the only coconut butter they had! Everything else in a glass jar was coconut oil which wasn’t what I was looking for.

The good news: Artisana organic coconut butter did not disappoint! – Continue Reading

Here we go again: Fontaine Sante traditional hummus. Sometimes, you just need to find a good basic dip that will go with everything. That’s where plain ol’ traditional hummus comes along. Now, I’ve already written off Sabra dips because they just don’t gel with my taste buds. So, when I saw the Fontaine Sante traditional hummus I decided I’d give it a try. A while back I tried one of their other dips and wanted to test out a different flavour to see how I’d like it.

Let’s just say the Fontaine Sante traditional hummus did not disappoint!

You know, I almost can’t resist the urge to try a dip even if it comes from a company that I’ve already tested before and have mixed feelings about. It’s like I have this hope that the next one will be different or that maybe I’ll discover a completely new gastronomical experience.

What can I say? This is why I run a product review site, after all. Otherwise, I wouldn’t be able to post daily on ThingsThatWeDo.com!

Well, let’s have another go at another Sabra hummus dip, shall we? I’ve reviewed a few of their other products before with mixed results. This time, I decided on the Sabra Roasted Pine Nut Hummus. I usually like roasted pine nuts so let’s hope they don’t disappoint.

I was at a local specialty kitchen supply store, browsing around, taking a look at the different products. Of course, there’s the usual – pots and pans, cupcake holders and all that jazz. Then, I saw this container: Wilton Candy Dips.

I do a double take.

What is THAT?

Now, those of you who are experienced bakers might be quite familiar with this product but I’d certainly never seen it before.

Question is: would you use Wilton Candy Dips?

Summer Fresh White Cheddar and Parmesan Dip – you know it’s going to be a decadent dip. I knew that when I picked it up from the grocery store. I was looking for a more decadent dip to jazz up my morning breakfast routine. I’ve had my fair share of hummus in the past little while and I wanted something a little different. I like cheese so when I saw the Summer Fresh White Cheddar and Parmesan Dip I figured it was worth a try (that and the fact that it was on sale).

I like hummus but I’m too lazy to make it. One day, one day, I’m going to make my own but for the time being I’m going to have to settle for the store bought stuff. Having said that, I like to keep my options open and try different brands. Lo and behold, a brand I’ve never heard of: Fontaine Sante Hummus Cocktail Humm! with roasted artichoke and spinach.

A friend recommended the Fontaine Sante Hummus Cocktail line after she found it at a local health food store. So, I went and got one to try too. There were a number of different flavours and I chose the Humm! with roasted artichoke and spinach. Why? Can you see me making artichoke at home?

Exactly.

You see this jar of peanut butter. You see the name. It says Family’s Best. Question: do you really think it’s best?

The hubby picked it up at a local health food store mainly because the selection was limited and he didn’t want a flavoured PB.

He comes home with Family’s Best organic creamy peanut butter and of course, my big kid and I read the ingredient list. Guess what we found?
