Crunch crunch crunch crunch…snacks. My big kid takes snacks to school. What child doesn’t? While I’d love for her to take fruit and veggies to school for snacks, it’s often not feasible because she’s eating while she’s on the go. Thus, we tend to rely on dry snacks that she can easily eat and save all the fruits and veggies for the home meals.

Now, I don’t know if you’ve noticed but snacks aren’t all created equal. Take the basic saltine cracker. Have you ever read the ingredient list on your average saltine cracker? Do you know what’s in it? Well, I’ve read it and sometimes, I get creeped out which is why I search for other alternatives.

Enter Suzie’s Organic Saltines with salt and extra virgin olive oil. – Continue Reading

I suppose I should confess. You know I’m not a big fan of chocolate but I have to confess that I don’t hate all things chocolate. If you’ve read some of my other reviews, you’ll know that some chocolates do get my thumbs up. For me, I like chocolate that isn’t overly sweet which is why I like the PC Concerto Milk Chocolate Topped All Butter Biscuits. Now I won’t eat the whole box in one sitting but I’d happily enjoy 2 or 3 before calling it quits and that says a lot! – Continue Reading

Crunch, crunch, crunch, that’s what my brain sometimes. Potato chip crunch? Nah..not feeling it. Fries? Nah, not that either. Salad crunch? Oh yes, sometimes I like a good salad and it has nothing to do with calorie counting. Ask the hubby and daughter and they’ll tell you that I love my veggies.

When I picked up this bag of Happy Herbert’s Organic Spelt Mini Pretzels I wasn’t thinking of a salad crunch. I was thinking savory, crunchy, and I didn’t feel like any nuts or seeds. That’s why this bag of Happy Herbert’s Organic Spelt Mini Pretzels is now sitting in my kitchen. – Continue Reading

See this bag of Thinsations Chips Ahoy! Thin Crisp cookies? It was given to me as a treat for snack. You may not believe this but I really don’t ever recall trying it before so I figured I could review it for ThingsThatWeDo.com. I mean, I’ve seen these little Thinsations snacks everywhere and I’ve had some of the other ones before but I’ve never been enticed to try the Chips Ahoy! Version. – Continue Reading

It’s no secret that I like the occasional crunchy snack. I used to like potato chips and I still do, sort of, but they just haven’t held my interest of late. So, I look for other crunchy alternatives and discovered Stacy’s Cinnamon Sugar Pita Chips. Back in September 2012, I reviewed Stacy’s Simply Naked Pita Chips which I kind of liked (at least more than potato chips). Almost 2 years later I find the cinnamon sugar version and I’m intrigued to try it. A crunchy, sweet treat? Hm…

I roam the grocery store sometimes. I’ll wander, I’ll browse and sometimes I’ll spot a product I’ve never seen before. Then, I’ll pick up said product to investigate a little further. Sometimes, I’ll buy it. Sometimes, I’ll leave it where it is.

Here’s a box of David Iced Oatmeal Cookies. It calls itself ‘an indulgent iced oatmeal cookie’. I was intrigued so I picked up the box and did a little reading.

Then, I put the box of David Iced Oatmeal Cookies right back down.

Want to know why?

Sometimes, I like to browse the aisles of my local grocery store. Who am I kidding? I love to browse the aisles. I don’t buy everything in the store but that certainly doesn’t stop me from picking up products, analyzing their contents, and doing some mental price comparisons.

On one particular occasion, I came across this jar of Penotti Speculoos Cookinotti cookie butter. I’d never seen it before. I was intrigued so I picked it up and read the label and then I promptly put it down.

Trying something new. Our family tries to follow this motto but it doesn’t always work. Sometimes, we get so focused on the day to day routine that ‘trying something new’ doesn’t always fit. So, we think on a smaller scale like trying something new at a new place that you’ve never visited or trying something new at a familiar place. That still counts as ‘something new’ and gives us the chance to stretch our wings and expand our horizons.

Enter the Greek almond cookie. See this lovely delectable morsel of goodness? Well, I had them when I was growing up but my daughter has never had one until now. We enter a Greek bakery that we’ve never been to before and do some browsing. I couldn’t resist the spinach pies (aka spanakopita) and my big kid eyeballed the icing sugar on the Greek almond cookie. She likes almonds and she likes icing sugar but she’s never had the two together in this way before.

thingsthatwedo.com - greek almond cookiesEnd result: she devoured her Greek almond cookie and discovered a new flavour combination. Personally, I thought it was a bit too sweet but then again, it could just be that my palate has changed over the years. There’s no denying that it was delicious – crunchy, light but rich, some almond bits, and a decent helping of icing sugar.

Yep, this was a good adventure and great incentive to do it again!

I may not be into potato chips lately but there’s no denying that I like to snack and I like crunchy snacks. It’s just that I currently find potato chips utterly boring and meaningless. Let’s face it, if I’m going to snack in moderation, I should at least enjoy it. Otherwise, what would be the point of it all?

Enter Blue Diamond Almond Nut Thins. I never saw these Blue Diamond Almond Nut Thins before and the new ‘Hint of Sea Salt’ flavour caught my eye. You see, that hint of sea salt is often what I look for in yee ol’ potato chip which lately has been a total disappointment with a capital D. Could these Blue Diamond Almond Nut Thins be the answer I’ve been looking for?

I’m always on the hunt for a different snack for my kid. Snacks for recess, snacks for the on-the-go-tie-me-over moments, you get the idea. We all know about those fish shaped crackers but I also want alternatives and variety.

A while ago I reviewed Annie’s cheddar bunnies. Recently, I came across Annie’s organic cheddar snack mix. I was intrigued because it included 2 different types of cheesie bunny crackers along with some bunny pretzels. It looked like a neat option to add to my kid’s snack repertoire and sure beats giving her a whole bag of pretzels which would be much too salty. Granted, I could buy 3 different crackers and dump them into one bag myself but I’m interested to see how this mix plays out. Would it be worth my dollar?
