Once upon a time, I was a gum chewer but those days are over. The more I know, the less I buy. Most chewing gum just isn’t made the way I want them to be. So, I looked for alternatives because quite frankly, no one likes stinky breath.

Enter Vermints. The vibrant red metal box was too cool to pass up but even better was the list of ingredients that was so NOT like the ingredients listed on the average pack of gum. I happen to like cinnamon so, Vermints came home with me and it’s been a blast ever since.

thingsthatwedo.com - cuisine camino bittersweet chocolate chipsCopyright© 2014 ThingsThatWeDo.com. All Rights Reserved.

Updated post: October 24, 2014. Call me clueless or maybe I just fell asleep with my eyes wide open? I owe the folks at Camino a HUGE apology. My early post on Oct. 15, 2014 noted that their bittersweet chocolate chips weren’t organic. What was I THINKING? They’re clearly marked as ORGANIC right there on the packaging. Thank goodness I include photos in my posts! Apologies to our readers for the confusion if any. I am definitely human, no spam posting here! Thank you to the folks at Camino for contacting me as well so that I could do this update post!!

Chocolate is not my favourite word in the alphabet, you know that, but it doesn’t mean I don’t eat it. My big kid happens to like chocolate and I do on very rare occasions. If my big kid is going to eat chocolate, I’d like her to eat something that isn’t completely disgusting and filled with garbage.

Enter Camino Bittersweet chocolate chips. The Camino Bittersweet chocolate chips were on sale so I picked up a bag to test out. We sometimes make chocolate pancakes or chocolate chip cookies so it doesn’t hurt to have some decent chocolate at home.

Question is: are your chocolate chips made as well as these ones? – Continue Reading

I don’t watch much television because I really just don’t have time for it. It is an ongoing rush the minute I get home from work so TV does not factor into my daily life. Now, that doesn’t mean I don’t want any TV at all. Recently, I watched this Hershey’s Chocolate commercial. Now, I can’t remember all the words in it but I think the messaging was pretty clear.

Hershey’s Chocolate was trying to tell me that their chocolate was made quite simply with ingredients that I could pronounce. I think that sums up the commercial give or take. Is that the exact message? I have no idea but that’s my interpretation. If you watched the same commercial and think I may be mistaken, let me know.

Anyhoo…I saw that commercial at least twice and that prompted me to go and look for a bag of Hershey’s Chocolate so I could read the ingredients myself.

Guess what I found? – Continue Reading

Who doesn’t want a treat? We all want a treat from time to time and almost every kid I know likes those gummy worms. I admit it, I could probably plow through an entire bag of gummy worms minus the creepy thought that gets in my head about what ingredients actually go in to some of those gummy candies.

Enter this pack of C-Juzee Sour Worms that I found at my local Loblaws grocery store. It claims to have natural colours and flavours and 20% fruit juice added to it. It even claims to be a source of vitamin C.

Let’s take a closer look, shall we?

thingsthatwedo.com - magnum double chocolate ice cream barCopyright© 2014 ThingsThatWeDo.com. All Rights Reserved.

Chocolate, me? NO, thank you but my big kid…well, she likes chocolate and thus on a recent trip to the grocery store we ended up with this box of Magnum Double Chocolate Ice Cream. Now, first things first, it was on sale otherwise I wouldn’t have picked it up because the Magnum ice cream bars tend to cost a fortune. On this particular occasion though, one entire box with 3 bars only cost me less than $5 so it was worth the adventure.

Anyone have one before? – Continue Reading

thingsthatwedo.com - brookside dark chocolate acai with blueberryCopyright© 2014 ThingsThatWeDo.com. All Rights Reserved.
I’m not a big fan of chocolate. I’m pretty sure that’s how I begin every review that involves chocolate. I say it because I want you all to know that I’m not easily swayed byt the sight of chocolate. I don’t automatically say a chocolate bar is yummy simply because it’s coated in the brown stuff. I’m also generally not a fan of fruity flavoured chocolate. I’ve never liked the whole chocolate orange combo and I certainly never liked the liquid fruit filled chocolates.

You’ve probably seen those bags of Brookside candies at your local grocery store. They come in all these different combinations. I’ve seen them, I’ve looked at them, but I’ve never been interested in trying them.

One day, I’m at a local grocery store and I notice that the Brookside candies are on sale. Translation: I decide to buy a pack to try them out. I have a look and set my eyes on the Brookside Dark Chocolate Acai with Blueberry. I like blueberries because they’re on the tart side so I’m hoping it’ll be a good complement with the chocolate but I’m not sure about the acai berries. – Continue Reading

thingsthatwedo.com - pc lemon meringue filled milk chocolateCopyright© 2014 ThingsThatWeDo.com. All Rights Reserved.

Do I like chips? Yep. Could I eat bags and bags of chips? Yep. I mean, it depends on the day and the flavour and my mood but yep, I could eat a lot of chips. Do I? Nope. Thankfully, I can self regulate and eat in moderation but hey, the point is I could.

Could I eat loads of loads of chocolate? NOPE. I’m just not a huge fan of chocolate bars and whatnot. I’ll eat chocolate occasionally because I do like chocolate cake (minus the goopy icing) and chocolate mousse (so long as it isn’t disgustingly sweet) but it’s not something I would dream about day in and day out.

Fast forward to a recent grocery shopping trip. My daughter spots this bar of PC Lemon Meringue Filled Milk Chocolate and she asks to buy it. She likes chocolate and she likes lemon so for her, this was a perfect match. Let’ s just hope it tastes good! – Continue Reading

You’re at the grocery store. You’re craving something chocolaty. You spot the little mini brownies and you’re thinking “YES”. Then you realize there are a million different brands that make mini brownies. You grab the first pack you see.

Is that a good idea?

Well, you see, that’s the thing: looks can be deceiving. On the outside, all the brownies may look the same but take a good look at the ingredients and you may be surprised.I’ve seen plenty of people do it. I’ve done it before. You’re in a rush and you grab the first one you see. Hey, how different could they be?

I was at a local specialty kitchen supply store, browsing around, taking a look at the different products. Of course, there’s the usual – pots and pans, cupcake holders and all that jazz. Then, I saw this container: Wilton Candy Dips.

I do a double take.

What is THAT?

Now, those of you who are experienced bakers might be quite familiar with this product but I’d certainly never seen it before.

Question is: would you use Wilton Candy Dips?

A little while ago, I spotted this awesome sale at Loblaws on these PC Salted Toffee Cheesecake Lollipops. Normally, I wouldn’t even get them a second look but they were only $3.99, at least half their original price so I picked them up to do a review. You see, I’ve seen them around for a while but wasn’t sure if they were worth the hype. The PC Salted Toffee Cheesecake Lollipops certainly looked good but cheesecake on a stick? Would it be smooth enough, creamy enough, to call itself a true cheesecake?
