Time for a quick little update. It’s Tuesday, January 20 (did you think I was going to complain about the work week again? I could, you know, but I’ll save that for a day when I’m particularly grouchy 🙂 )and our family is still focused on healthy eating. We continue to incorporate more beans, legumes, and different grains into our meals whenever we can.

In fact, we started eating more legumes, beans, and different grains a while ago. The first pic in this post features some yummy split peas, rice, and barley that we ate a while back. Over time, we’ve gotten more adventurous and honestly, it wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be.

I’m going to cut right to the chase and tell you that I love Pentatonix. I have since their Sing Off days. I’m a big fan of a capella. The capacity to sing without the use of other instruments fascinates me. There’s nothing to hide behind so you either can sing or you can’t. Pentatonix, a 5 member group, takes a capella to a whole new level of genius.

If you love Christmas music, you’ll want to check out Pentatonix’s latest Christmas album, That’s Christmas to Me titled after their original song. In true Pentatonix fashion, they breathe new life to classics like Hark! The Herald Angels Sing, Sleigh Ride, and Santa Claus is Coming to Town. Winter Wonderland has a neat new spin, infused with Don’t Worry Be Happy. I’ve never heard “Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy” performed only with the use of human voices. “White Winter Hymnal” is beautiful and completely boggles my mind (you should definitely check out their official video on YouTube).

I’ve always loved the song “Mary, Did You Know” but listening to Pentatonix sing it makes me want to cry. It’s captivating. My current favourite on the EP is an original song by Pentatonix titled, “That’s Christmas to Me”. It’s pure, it’s moving, and highlights the very essence of Christmas.

I listen to this Pentatonix EP “That’s Christmas to Me” every single day and I’m not kidding when I say that it puts me in a really happy festive mood. It’s a must for my Christmas holiday and likely I’ll be listening to it during the rest of the year too! – Continue Reading

I don’t know much about booster seats. Sure, my big kid uses a booster seat but it doesn’t mean I know a lot about the different brands or types. Given how little we know about this topic, this post isn’t about the pros or cons but it is about bringing awareness to some of the options that are out there that you may not be aware of.

Case in point: did you know Clek Ozzi booster seats exist?

I certainly didn’t.

I think I’m a relatively even tempered person. I have my likes and I have my dislikes but for the most part, I think I’m a fairly optimistic, upbeat person. For example, I know I hate shopping but I do do it. I just do it my way which includes the occasional online shopping trip at trusted websites.

I get regular emails from different stores and on this particular day, I decided to visit one website (which shall remain nameless since I have no intention of drumming up any awareness or business for them) because it was a brand I trusted and it had a really good sale.

I was in a pretty good mood until I got to the website. Now I KNOW I’m a techno turtle (Have you seen our Facebook page? I’m hardly ever there) but I know my way around technology and I KNOW how to use websites. This company’s website is by far the WORST shopping site I have ever been to. Press a button or a link on the website: it just hung and did NOTHING. Press the ‘next’ button to see more options: again NOTHING. Try to add to my shopping cart: again, nothing. Tried to use their filter system to customize the sizes that I wanted to search for and it took about 3, 4 clicks for it to even register that I’d clicked it.

Now, before you tell me that I might have been going too quickly for the website to handle I wasn’t. It also wasn’t my computer given that I was patient enough to try it on 2 different computers at 2 different locations and the website was a total disappointment on both attempts. I was even savvy enough to try the website using Google Chrome, IE, and Firefox. Nothing worked to make the process smoother.

So, what did I do? – Continue Reading

I think it’s safe to say that regular readers of ThingsThatWeDo.com know that I’m not a big fan of shopping. In fact, I abhor it. I hate the crowds, I hate the excessive consumerism mentality which goes against every lazy bone that I have in my body, and I definitely hate spending money.

Having said that, I do like to keep my eyes open for a good deal because it reduces the amount of time I have to waste on shopping.

Do I sound like I’m making no sense whatsoever?

Allow me to provide you all with a concrete example of how I shop. – Continue Reading

Do you know Pentatonix? I absolutely love Pentatonix, have loved them since I first saw them on Season 3 of the Sing Off (a TV A capella singing competition – think American Idol or The Voice but completely A capella which personally I think is much harder to do!). Pentatonix has 5 members: Scott, Avi, Mitch, Kirstie, and Kevin and each of them have stellar voices and capabilities.

Pentatonix blends the voices of Scott, Kirstie, and Mitch with the beats and sounds from Avi and Kevin. Each voice lends its own signature style. Minus just one of them and the group would not be Pentatonix. Pentatonix does covers of a lot of different songs but they also come up with their own original work. What Pentatonix does together is nothing short of magical and trust me, I rarely gush about music (do you even SEE a review category for music? I rest my case).

Originally posted January 2, 2014:

Children’s TV Show review: What’s Your News?

What’s Your News? is quite the unique children’s TV show. What’s Your News? has a news story type format featuring real children doing real things. All the ‘news’ that gets reported are real life events such as learning how to get dressed, how to whistle, how to use a pogo stick. The news reporters are cute little ants and then there’s Antony (an anteater – must be an inside joke!) who thinks he’s an ant!

Connecting with the folks at What’s Your News? , I learn that the children in the episodes are your typical pre-school children as in they’re not professional actors. The co-creator and producer, Larry Mirkin, happens to have quite the experience in children’s television all the way back to his work on Fraggle Rock with Jim Henson. OMG…IIIII watched Fraggle Rock!

To celebrate Season 2 of What’s Your News?, ThingsThatWeDo.com is happy to announce that we’ve got an easy little contest to win 1 of 3 What’s Your News? Scarves, perfect for the wintry months! The microfleece What’s Your News? Scarves are made in Canada and winning is easy.

How to Win a What’s Your News? scarf?

I really don’t have time to be bothered with spam).

To respect everyone’s privacy, I won’t be posting names on ThingsThatWeDo.com and I won’t be using your emails for any marketing purposes. Those of you who have left comments for ThingsThatWeDo.com know that I’ve deleted your emails before posting your comments and have never ever emailed you. I was recently contacted by NailPolishCanada.com about the Babyliss Miracurl. I’ve never heard of it, never thought of it, so decided to check it out.

Ah…it’s a curler for your HAIR, explains why I don’t know about it. I barely have time to look at my face let alone my hair in the morning! The Babyliss Miracurl isn’t just any curler though. Apparently, it’s an automatic hair curler that does all the work for you. Boy, that sounds enticing. Remember the TV show “Will and Grace”? I always loved Debra Messing’s hair in “Will and Grace” but there is no way I’d ever get my hair to look like THAT. Anyhoo, I don’t know if the Babyliss Miracurl can do Grace hair but it sure looks neat.

From what I can gather, it looks like the Babyliss Miracurl is relatively easy to use. You put a strand of your hair into the chamber and it automatically pulls your hair into the curling chamber. There are beeping sounds to guide your moves, release your hair, and voila…masterpiece!

Now, that’s purely what I read from the NailPolishCanada.com site and I watched the video too. I have no idea if it works or not. The reason why I’m posting about it is because NailPolishCanada.com is currently giving away 3 of them! If you happen to win one, you can let us all know how well it works.

Contest details are on the NailPolishCanada.com website. Visit their site for more details. Happy Christmas curling and good luck if you decide to enter! Better hurry though, winners will be announced on December 25th!

FYI: in case anyone is wondering, I have no affiliation with NailPolishCanada.com whatsoever. I don’t own it, I don’t run it, I barely have time to run ThingsThatWeDo.com. This is just a friendly FYI post for our readers. Check out their site if you want to, no obligation at all!

IndigoKids' One Day Deals: 2 Great Deals Every Day, 5 Days Only! Visit Indigo.ca to save! Nov. 11-15

Copyright© 2013 ThingsThatWeDo.com. All Rights Reserved.

As if it wasn’t obvious that Christmas is just around the corner (personally, I’m sure we just only finished Halloween yesterday but that’s just me), you know it’s about to hit you right between the eyes when you start to see all the holiday wheels and deals.

If you’re looking and browsing around for holiday gifts, this week might be a good one to check out the Indigo.ca website. Personally, I’ve always relied on indigo.ca to get goodies for the kids I know because the gifts arrive at my door without me having to navigate the busy shopping malls. There are usually some pretty great deals if I keep my eyes open. This week however, the deals are sweeter because there are more options with 2 deals every day.

Perfect example: today’s deal is 30% off Playmobil products and $10 for the Geronimo Stilton books from the Kingdom of Fantasy eeries. Playmobil is rarely offered at 30% and bigger kids may just like those quirky GS books.

In any case, more deals are on the way. I won’t put the new link on the right because they’re too wide and don’t fit (go figure!). Be sure to visit indigo.ca daily because the deals are constantly changing (looks like some Lego products are on the way!

Groupon: C$5 for C$10 Starbucks Card eGift

Copyright© 2013 ThingsThatWeDo.com. All Rights Reserved.

Okay, this came from Groupon so I know it’s legitimate. I also got one for myself and I’ve since uploaded my card so I know it works. What exactly am I talking about?

Check out this deal but it’s going to end soon. Today is the last day before it expires. Groupon is offering you $10 worth of Starbucks but you only have to pay $5. Click on the link included in today’s post. If you don’t yet have a Groupon account, set one up for yourself. It’s super easy (I have an account and you know if I can do it, so can you).

Once you pay, you can either print off the $10 to be uploaded at a Starbucks store or you can do it online. Your choice!

I don’t always go to Starbucks since I make my coffee at home and take it work. Occasionally though, if I’m stuck, Starbucks is just a hop away and I’ll get myself a nice cup of coffee to enjoy. Since I have a Starbucks card, re-fills are free so that makes my dollar stretch even more given that it’s already flown out of my pocket. Consider this Groupon deal another way of putting a little extra money in your wallet!

Note: you can only get one. Sigh…well, better than nothing!

Better hurry though, the Groupon deal runs out today or when all units are sold!
