If you’re a regular reader of ThingsThatWeDo.com, you’ll know that I’m a huge Pentatonix fan. If you haven’t heard of them before, then you have some serious musical homework to do.

Pentatonix is the most brilliant acapella group on this planet (okay, I may be biased). A strong group of 5 dazzling minds, Avi, Kirstie, Kevin, Mitch, and Scott prove that instruments aren’t necessary to make beautiful music. They’re smart, they arrange their own music, they make their own music, they’re dedicated and hard working, and they sing LIVE.

Pentatonix is magic personified. I can’t quite put it all into words and I won’t bore you all with the history of the group. Do a quick internet search and you’ll learn more than you can imagine about them. From the Sing Off competition to 2015, Pentatonix continues to amaze me.

All I can say is Pentatonix is sheer perfection and they’ve just released a new video titled, “Evolution of Michael Jackson”. You’ve never seen a compilation of Michael Jackson’s work quite like this before.

Things to do: watch it! It was released just yesterday and it already has over 500,000 views.

Pentatonix “Evolution of Michael Jackson”

Yep, I am a fan.

It’s a new year, why not try something new? In my case, I’m trying chia seeds. I’ve never had them before EVER. I’d heard about chia seeds and their health benefits but never thought to do a taste test. Enter 2015 and I find a sale on Natural Factors Organic Chia Factors at my local health food store. I purchased 2 jars for the price of 1 and it was well under $20.I rarely see that kind of sale so here I am, proud owner of Natural Factors Organic Chia Factors.

I have no idea how long it’s going to take me to finish both jars of Natural Factors Organic Chia Factors but something tells me it’s going to last me a VERY LONG TIME. - Continue Reading

Originally posted January 2, 2014:

Children’s TV Show review: What’s Your News?

What’s Your News? is quite the unique children’s TV show. What’s Your News? has a news story type format featuring real children doing real things. All the ‘news’ that gets reported are real life events such as learning how to get dressed, how to whistle, how to use a pogo stick. The news reporters are cute little ants and then there’s Antony (an anteater – must be an inside joke!) who thinks he’s an ant!

Connecting with the folks at What’s Your News? , I learn that the children in the episodes are your typical pre-school children as in they’re not professional actors. The co-creator and producer, Larry Mirkin, happens to have quite the experience in children’s television all the way back to his work on Fraggle Rock with Jim Henson. OMG…IIIII watched Fraggle Rock!

To celebrate Season 2 of What’s Your News?, ThingsThatWeDo.com is happy to announce that we’ve got an easy little contest to win 1 of 3 What’s Your News? Scarves, perfect for the wintry months! The microfleece What’s Your News? Scarves are made in Canada and winning is easy.

If you’re interested in taking a peek at What’s Your News? with your child, catch it on Sunday mornings at 7:35 am ET on the CBC network.

How to Win a What’s Your News? scarf?

SO…how do you land yourself a prized What’s Your News? scarf? You can see it here on Jingle, my kid’s toy dog. It’s simple really. Email me at: thingsthatwedo.com at gmail dot com (notice, I spelled out my email and didn’t include a link? That was intentional so only really live breathing humans will send me emails. I really don’t have time to be bothered with spam).

You have until January 17, 2014 to email me. After that, I’ll pick 3 names randomly. I’ll then contact winners by email. To respect everyone’s privacy, I won’t be posting names on ThingsThatWeDo.com and I won’t be using your emails for any marketing purposes. Those of you who have left comments for ThingsThatWeDo.com know that I’ve deleted your emails before posting your comments and have never ever emailed you. I only respond to emails that come directly to me and don’t look like spam. So, no worries that I’ll be spamming you. It’s just not my thing to do! 

I was recently contacted by NailPolishCanada.com about the Babyliss Miracurl. I’ve never heard of it, never thought of it, so decided to check it out.

Ah…it’s a curler for your HAIR, explains why I don’t know about it. I barely have time to look at my face let alone my hair in the morning! The Babyliss Miracurl isn’t just any curler though. Apparently, it’s an automatic hair curler that does all the work for you. Boy, that sounds enticing. Remember the TV show “Will and Grace”? I always loved Debra Messing’s hair in “Will and Grace” but there is no way I’d ever get my hair to look like THAT. Anyhoo, I don’t know if the Babyliss Miracurl can do Grace hair but it sure looks neat.

From what I can gather, it looks like the Babyliss Miracurl is relatively easy to use. You put a strand of your hair into the chamber and it automatically pulls your hair into the curling chamber. There are beeping sounds to guide your moves, release your hair, and voila…masterpiece!

Now, that’s purely what I read from the NailPolishCanada.com site and I watched the video too. I have no idea if it works or not. The reason why I’m posting about it is because NailPolishCanada.com is currently giving away 3 of them! If you happen to win one, you can let us all know how well it works.

Contest details are on the NailPolishCanada.com website. Visit their site for more details. Happy Christmas curling and good luck if you decide to enter! Better hurry though, winners will be announced on December 25th!

FYI: in case anyone is wondering, I have no affiliation with NailPolishCanada.com whatsoever. I don’t own it, I don’t run it, I barely have time to run ThingsThatWeDo.com. This is just a friendly FYI post for our readers. Check out their site if you want to, no obligation at all!

IndigoKids' One Day Deals: 2 Great Deals Every Day, 5 Days Only! Visit Indigo.ca to save! Nov. 11-15

Copyright© 2013 ThingsThatWeDo.com. All Rights Reserved.

As if it wasn’t obvious that Christmas is just around the corner (personally, I’m sure we just only finished Halloween yesterday but that’s just me), you know it’s about to hit you right between the eyes when you start to see all the holiday wheels and deals.

If you’re looking and browsing around for holiday gifts, this week might be a good one to check out the Indigo.ca website. Personally, I’ve always relied on indigo.ca to get goodies for the kids I know because the gifts arrive at my door without me having to navigate the busy shopping malls. There are usually some pretty great deals if I keep my eyes open. This week however, the deals are sweeter because there are more options with 2 deals every day.

Perfect example: today’s deal is 30% off Playmobil products and $10 for the Geronimo Stilton books from the Kingdom of Fantasy eeries. Playmobil is rarely offered at 30% and bigger kids may just like those quirky GS books.

In any case, more deals are on the way. I won’t put the new link on the right because they’re too wide and don’t fit (go figure!). Be sure to visit indigo.ca daily because the deals are constantly changing (looks like some Lego products are on the way!

5 Toy Brands, 5 Days of Savings! Up to 30% off Top Toy Brands at Chapters.Indigo.ca!

Copyright© 2013 ThingsThatWeDo.com. All Rights Reserved.

I love indigo.ca because it makes my shopping life easy. You all know I hate shopping, it’s just not my thing so when I can, I’ll go to indigo.ca because they have good deals (when the deals are available) and free shipping (sometimes totally free, other times after $25 which is easy to reach when I buy in bulk and stock up for the holidays).

I really like when indigo.ca has these surprise sales. Every day of the week, there will be one brand of toys on sale for up to 30% off on indigo.ca. On Monday, it was Playmobil. Who knows what the next few days will bring? Just make sure you visit once a day so you know what the sales are.

If you have kids that like certain brands that never go on sale or if you have a kids birthday party to attend sometime in the near future, you may just want to take advantage of this sale. I certainly plan to!

Groupon: C$5 for C$10 Starbucks Card eGift

Copyright© 2013 ThingsThatWeDo.com. All Rights Reserved.

Okay, this came from Groupon so I know it’s legitimate. I also got one for myself and I’ve since uploaded my card so I know it works. What exactly am I talking about?

Check out this deal but it’s going to end soon. Today is the last day before it expires. Groupon is offering you $10 worth of Starbucks but you only have to pay $5. Click on the link included in today’s post. If you don’t yet have a Groupon account, set one up for yourself. It’s super easy (I have an account and you know if I can do it, so can you).

Once you pay, you can either print off the $10 to be uploaded at a Starbucks store or you can do it online. Your choice!

I don’t always go to Starbucks since I make my coffee at home and take it work. Occasionally though, if I’m stuck, Starbucks is just a hop away and I’ll get myself a nice cup of coffee to enjoy. Since I have a Starbucks card, re-fills are free so that makes my dollar stretch even more given that it’s already flown out of my pocket. Consider this Groupon deal another way of putting a little extra money in your wallet!

Note: you can only get one. Sigh…well, better than nothing!

Better hurry though, the Groupon deal runs out today or when all units are sold!

Whenever I think of Earth Day, I think of this picture my daughter made for me a few years back. It was one of those magical moments when she just brought the picture up to me and told me she had drawn the Earth.  The mind of a child is a beautiful thing.

Today is April 22, 2013,  Earth Day, a day we devote to all that is good on this Earth and a day to make a positive change. Whatever you do today, think and consider the impact you may be having on this world but let us do it everyday and not JUST today.

Over the course of the past few years, our family has made a more conscious effort to green up our lives. We use glass more often and try to reduce our reliance on plastic items. We use vinegar and water to do most of our daily household cleaning and we try to remember to turn off the lights when they’re not needed. In our daughter’s school, the children are encouraged to use both sides of each sheet of paper and correspondence is digital whenever possible.

If you’re a coffee lover, you probably already know that Starbucks is giving out free coffee to anyone who shows up with a tumbler or mug.  You even have your choice of coffee, tea, iced coffee or iced tea. Sure, they’re hoping you’ll buying something else too but it’s still a nice gesture especially if you were going to get a paper cup that day anyway.  The notice was printed on my receipt but I only checked it today or I would have posted it sooner.  Now, I’m not sure if this is global, so do check your local Starbucks for more details.

To all our readers at ThingsThatWeDo.com, let’s continue making Earth a better place to live. Let’s make it cleaner and healthier for our children and our children’s children and our children’s children’s children….
