I’m always looking for new things to try to jazz up the meals at home. I believe it makes for a more exciting home eating environment. Well, I was at the grocery store the other day and my daughter says she wants a snack. Of course, we happened to be in the chip aisle so I said with a grin, “Are you hungry or did you just want a snack?” and she grins back and says, “I want CHIPS.” I agreed that we could buy something on 2 conditions: it had to be on sale and be relatively okay when I read the ingredients. Next thing you know, I spot the Popcorn Indiana chip’ins: popcorn chips and my curiosity is peaked. I was also instantaneously impressed by the ingredient list (we picked up the sea salt flavour): corn, sunflower oil, and sea salt. Yes, dear folks, I bought them and we tried them on our way home.

Product review: what happened?

This is the second Popcorn Indiana product that we’ve tried and I have to be honest and say I was a little wary after the first one. If you’ve read my product review on the Popcorn Indiana Kettlecorn popcorn (if not, click here to read it), you’ll know that I really liked the ingredients in the Popcorn Indiana Kettlecorn popcorn but for some reason, it didn’t seem to sit well with me.
I dove into the bag of Popcorn Indiana chip’ins: popcorn chips (sea salt flavour) with my daughter and was immediately relieved. It tasted GREAT! It’s light and fluffy like popcorn (as opposed to the density of a regular potato chip) and yet, it had a much sharper crunch than your regular bag of popcorn. They’re shaped like triangles with a bumpy texture (not flat like a flat chip and not rippled, definitely bumpy) so it adds a new textural dimension to your taste buds.
I also liked that it didn’t taste excessively salty but being so light and fluffy in texture, I can also see me polishing off an entire bag without realizing it. My daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed the chip’ins on the trip home.
Upon reading the package further, Popcorn Indiana chip’ins: popcorn chips also indicates that it is all natural, has whole grains, no artificial flavours (awesome!), no preservatives (double awesome!) and of course, if gluten free.


Will I buy it again? Yes, for all the reasons mentioned above but in moderation. Reason? Well, I do have to mention that I dislike one of the sentences on the back of the packaging. It reads, “Here is the chip’ins for Purists. The main ingredients: Corn, sea salt, and air….” Notice the obvious omission of sunflower oil which is actually second on the ingredient list, right after the word ‘corn’. If you use sunflower oil, then you should own up to it and stand by the ingredients you use. There’s no need to market it differently otherwise. I believe in responsible marketing so for that reason, Popcorn Indiana chip’ins: popcorn chips will be a ‘sometime’ food in our household, with points lost for a poor marketing strategy.
