Okay, I’m sorry, I apologize, I am having yet another snacking moment and decided to buy the Harvest Cheddar SunChips. What can I say, I was feeling a little mousey and wanted something to nibble on. This would be the first bag of SunChips I’ve bought since they switched over to the loud crackly bag. What’s my reason for buying them this time? Well, I wanted something to chew on that was crunchy but I didn’t want potato chips because a part of my brain was telling me that there must be a somewhat healthier option out there for me. So, my eyes gravitate towards the SunChips brand and I reasoned that at least, it wasn’t a potato fried in oil.  Besides, I love that cheesy taste. These SunChips had to be a better alternative, right?

Product review: What happened?

I take the bag of Harvest Cheddar SunChips home with me and I have to tell you that the compostable bag is making enough noise for the world to hear that I’m carting around a bag of SunChips so it’s not like I’m going to be able to sneak them past my kid. Besides, it wouldn’t be right of me to do that so we all tried them out as a family.
One thing I noticed is that these Harvest Cheddar SunChips seem saltier than I remembered. Now, that might just be me. Maybe I’ve reduced my sodium consumption so that I perceive the SunChips as being saltier. Or, maybe they’ve changed their formula and they might actually be saltier than they used to be a few years back.
As for the flavour, both my daughter and I liked the cheesy flavour and she’d probably eat more of the chips if I let her but all in moderation is the key to healthy success. At the same time, something for me was off about the flavour of the Harvest Cheddar SunChips. They just didn’t taste the same as they used to. I honestly don’t know if the texture of the chip has changed (does it seem thicker to anyone else or is it just me?) or if they’ve changed the ingredient that go into making the Harvest Cheddar SunChips. I can’t quite put my finger on it but for me, something has changed.

Verdict:

I’m not sure if I’ll be buying another bag of Harvest Cheddar SunChips any time soon. While I still like them, I have to be honest with myself and recognize that the taste no longer appeals to me as much as it used to.  Although the Harvest Cheddar SunChips are still tasty, my palate just didn’t appreciate them enough. I’m okay with the incredibly loud crunchy bag because I appreciate that it’s compostable. I do find them too salty for young children though so if you do buy them, save them for the adult taste buds.
