If you’ve been an avid reader of ThingsThatWeDo.com, you’ll know that I have quite the soft spot for peanut butter, which in my opinion, qualifies me to give decent reviews on all things peanut butter since I eat so much of it. I have my preferred brand of peanut butter at home and the rest of the products are purchased purely for review purposes for ThingsThatWeDo.com. I don’t intend to switch my brand of peanut butter any time soon so I have tough expectations to meet when it comes to peanut butter.
Lo and behold my next peanut butter victim. Loblaws President’s Choice recently came out with a new ice cream sandwich, what they called PC The Decadent Peanut Butter Ice Cream Sandwich. Wow, that’s a mouthful. Try saying that 5 times in a row. Well, you see, it says peanut butter and it’s an ice cream sandwich and it’s summer time so those 3 things combined along with a sale price of $4.99 determined today’s product review. Given my love of peanut butter, you may be surprised by my verdict.
Taste Test: PC The Decadent Peanut Butter Ice Cream Sandwich
So, it’s hot out and we all want different ways to cool off. Enter exhibit A: the PC The Decadent Peanut Butter Ice Cream Sandwich. I know, it doesn’t sound like a proper sentence, does it but if I’m going to make this post searchable for people who want to review these Loblaws peanut butter ice cream sandwiches before buying them, I have to at least try and embrace the longwinded name.
If you think that’s long winded, wait until you get a gander of the ingredient list. I’m actually ashamed that I ate these PC The Decadent Peanut Butter Ice Cream Sandwiches because of how long this ingredient list is. Sure, it accounts for the cookie and the ice cream but I have to wonder if some of those ingredients could have been omitted. The words ‘modified’ and all those sugar related words show up a bit too much for my liking so this taste test better be worth all the junk that is going down my throat.
Sadly, this PC The Decadent Peanut Butter Ice Cream Sandwich did not measure up to my liking. For the amount of human dignity that I am sacrificing to consume all those ingredients, these PC The Decadent Peanut Butter Ice Cream Sandwich are a sad sad reason to do so. Open the packaging and the sandwich is small which I guess I can live with given that its size limits the calories you’ll be consuming and that the ice cream sandwich uses the PC decadent cookie. It looks promising but that’s as far as it goes.
On the first bite, the PC The Decadent Peanut Butter Ice Cream Sandwich noticeably is lackluster. The cookie itself is insanely soft and mushy and almost seems to smear on the roof of your mouth when you take that first bite. Thank goodness for the chocolate chunks that are part of the cookie which stay crunchy and help to add some texture to the peanut butter ice cream cookie sandwich.
As for the ice cream in the middle, there isn’t enough of a peanut butter flavour for me to call these peanut butter ice cream sandwiches. For me, these PC The Decadent Peanut Butter Ice Cream Sandwich did not live up to my expectations. Compared to some of the other PC products we’ve tested in the past, these PC The Decadent Peanut Butter Ice Cream Sandwich are a poor poor excuse to consume icky ingredients on a hot summer day. Give me a tub of the PC peanut butter ice cream and I’ll make my own ice cream sandwiches, thank you very much.
Given my scalding review of these PC The Decadent Peanut Butter Ice Cream Sandwich, is it any wonder that I wouldn’t recommend these things to anyone? I’m not sure I can consider these ice cream sandwiches because they are so low on my list of summer potentials.
Now, I did visit the Loblaws website and it seems that others are quite happy with these PC The Decadent Peanut Butter Ice Cream Sandwiches which makes me wonder if I just got a shoddy batch. So, if you end up buying a box and you happen to think that I’m way off the mark, let me know and I’ll be happy to include your post because I’m certainly not going to waste my money purchasing another box of the PC The Decadent Peanut Butter Ice Cream Sandwich to prove it one way or another. As far as I’m concerned, the quality control thing is not my responsibility.
Sorry, Loblaws, for me, this PC The Decadent Peanut Butter Ice Cream Sandwich completely missed the mark which further supports my plead that you must keep your PC ice cream shop peanut butter ice cream on the freezer shelves for all eternity!
