Feb 25, 2017 - odd plant

You know, I don’t have a particularly green thumb. Sure, people who know me would think I have one given how incredibly green my office space is but that doesn’t mean I have a green thumb because I really don’t know what I’m doing.  I water my plants occasionally and that’s about it. A number of those plants are either cast offs or plants I’ve chosen to save from the garbage pin.

Green thumb? Nope. Kindhearted towards plants? Yes. – Continue Reading

If someone asked you to describe your ‘best day ever’, what would you say?

It’s not exactly an easy question to answer and for many of us it’s not something we can describe. Perhaps, it’s more a feeling than anything else.

I’ve had a grueling work schedule recently. Most nights I’m up far too late and wake up far too early. I recognize it’s temporary but I’m also exhausted and as my pal would say, ‘You’re running on fumes.” Yet, surprisingly enough, a series of conditions led me to have the best day ever.

Sudden snow fall under mild conditions; weekend not weekday; my big kid that I love spending time with, and one nearby hill. Result: magic. pic - snow

Instead of rushing home to do more chores or the usual weekend fare, we grabbed the toboggan and made our way to the hill. It wasn’t a big hill at all, by any means, but it was covered in fresh untouched snow (no footprint or yellow in sight). There we were, trudging up and down that hill, patting down the snow to make the best path possible. I even made myself a stump to sit on so I could stare out over the hill. There was laughing, swooshing, snow balls flying, and at times we just lay on the snow and stared at the sky.

Yep, best day ever.

Things to do: Take advantage of your weekends or free time (what little you may have) and build memories with loved ones. It doesn’t need to happen only on Valentine’s Day!

Feb 12, 2017 - snack-pack-chocolate-pudding

Not too long ago, I posted my experience of making my own chocolate pudding. I’d never done it before and I was surprised that it wasn’t as tough as I’d thought it would be. The best part, I knew exactly what I’d put in to the chocolate pudding. If I wanted to, I could modify the sugar amount and maybe in the future, I could even jazz it up a bit. I have no idea HOW I’d jazz it up. I haven’t figured that out yet but the point being, I’d have the option to do so. You get that kind of freedom when you make your own stuff.

It then got me wondering: what’s in the store bought stuff? – Continue Reading

Feb 7, 2017 - lets-do-organic-organic-cornstarch

Allow me to introduce you to my first ever batch of chocolate pudding. It’s not something I’ve ever considered making until I saw the recipe on the back of the Let’s Do Organic Cornstarch box. As it so happened, I had all the needed ingredients in my home so I decided to try something new.

Not bad, right?

Here’s the original recipe off the box of Let’s Do Organic Cornstarch: – Continue Reading

Feb 2, 2017 - peanut butter cookie with thumbprint cookie dough

Remember those thumbprint cookies? You don’t? Here, I’ll remind you. When I finally perfected the recipe and the process, this is what they looked like: - thumbprint cookies - batch3

In the early days when I was first learning how to make thumbprint cookies, they looked a little different. - thumbprint cookies - batch1

UghI made so many batches that I still get shivers when I make thumbprint cookies. I’ll make them for others and can’t even bring myself to eat them anymore. Well then, what am I going to enjoy while others are chomping on those thumbprint cookies and I’m too lazy to dig up another recipe to throw in the oven?

Brain blast!

Why not use the same cookie dough and pair it with other ingredients! I have to admit, this is one of my more brilliant moments. – Continue Reading
