thingsthatwedo.com - a-pentatonix-christmas-cd

December 25th may be right around the corner but I am having a Pentatonix Christmas right now.

As in, RIGHT NOW and I have no intent of slowing down.

Yes, Pentatonix has been blaring in our home every single day for the past 3 weeks. I’ve been having a jolly good Pentatonix Christmas and I’m ECSTATIC. There’s Christmas music and then there are the sweet harmonies and melodies made by Pentatonix who continue to make acapella magic. If you haven’t picked up your copy of A Pentatonix Christmas, you should. - Continue Reading

thingsthatwedo.com - caramel peanut crunch

This is living proof that you don’t always have to know what you’re doing in the kitchen to make something tasty.

There I was standing in the kitchen aimlessly staring at these caramel squares that somehow ended up on our table. Then it hit me: I wanted to melt them down to make a snack of some sort. The only problem was, I wasn’t prepared so I had no recipe to lean on. I threw caution to the wind and decided I’d just rummage through the cupboards to see what I could pull together. I ended up with some peanuts and pretzels.

Perfect. - Continue Reading

thingsthatwedo.com - scotch-essentials-sweater-pill-remover

If you’re a regular reader of ThingsThatWeDo.com you’ll know I’m not a big fan of shopping. It’s an activity that just doesn’t agree with me. Malls with all the bright lights and noise are just far too excessive in my humble opinion. Now, clothes come and go and your favourites are always the first ones to get tossed because they’re overworked and overtired and show their age far too soon.

Enter Scotch Essentials Sweater Pill Remover. My big kid found this for me during one of our random excursions. We were browsing the aisles at one of our local stores and she gives me a poke and a jab towards the Scotch Essentials Sweater Pill Remover. Intrigued, I picked it up and read the box. - Continue Reading

thingsthatwedo.com pic - canada day

Sigh.

Days like this always leave me with ‘that’ feeling. You know the one. It makes you wonder about lives that could have been, memories that never had a chance to be formed, and all the tears that were shed oh so long ago.

Remembrance Day.

There’s nothing I can say or do that would do this day justice. I’m fortunate enough to live in a part of the world where I can have my own thoughts, my own rights, and my own being but that all came at a cost oh so many years ago.

It’s a luxury I know I’m blessed to have. It’s a luxury because of sacrifices that others made. I’m humbled, I’m honoured, and I remember.

In honour of those sacrifices and of all that has happened, make a promise to yourself to live life to its fullest, to rise above the challenges thrown at you, to know that each day ends with a new opportunity to do more and do better the following day. Make a promise to be good to yourself and good to others, to put forth positivity and hope.

It’s the least we could do.

thingsthatwedo.com - hidden face

There we were, our family sitting together at the dinner table, enjoying some fresh warm bread (that I didn’t bake) with a splash of olive oil and balsamic vinegar.

So simple, yet so incredibly delicious.

Next thing you know, my big kid points out, “Hey mom, look!”

Do you see it?

A surprised face, perhaps, wearing shades or maybe the face is yawning. I think it looks more like surprised than tired. Yep, we all agree, definitely surprised.

I love moments like this where the family can connect over something small. In that moment, we can just enjoy each other’s company as we banter back and forth about what that face might be doing or thinking. There’s no talk of trials or tribulations. There’s no worry, no frustration, no stress.

Gosh, we all need more moments like this where creativity is nourished and jokes abound.

When was the last time you did that with your loved ones?
