Product recalls, they’re endless! Perhaps the one thing I’m most surprised by this time is all the ‘fire hazards’ that have been identified. Eep! Best to check and make sure you’re not affected.

thingsthatwedo.com pic - Earth Hour 2012 let the sun shine!Sigh. I’m so torn when I think of the world we live in today.

Earth.

How many of us have really spent some time to think of what that word means.

Earth.

What does that word mean to you?

For me, I think of a world where many living creatures reside and depend on one another. From the biggest bird to the smallest ant, we all inhabit this Earth and somehow we have to figure out how to live on this one planet.

Humans are interesting creatures (and I’m not just talking about all the weird work politics or the oddities and social conventions that occupy our daily lives). As a species, we humans use a lot of this Earth and I’m not sure how good we are at taking care of it.

I recently stumbled across this video from The Weather Channel, of two kayakers and a sea turtle tangled in a plastic mess of sorts. Call it fate or perfect timing but thank goodness for those two kayakers who saved the sea turtle’s life but I can’t help but feel saddened that it even happened in the first place. Take a moment and watch the video, from the Weather Channel:

The Weather Channel – Kayakers save Sea Turtle

This Earth Day, let’s all make a pledge to make this world a better place to live in our own way. If we each made one small difference in our lives where we put the Earth first, just imagine how much better this world would be.

Earth.

thingsthatwedo.com - chocolate chip ice cream sandwiches

You know I’m not a big fan of chocolate but I tell you, it is never too early in the year to enjoy some homemade ice cream sandwiches. I’ve had a few store bought ones and they’ve always been disappointing. I either didn’t like the ice cream or I found the cookie too soft and squishy. Make your own cookies, choose your favourite ice cream and well, you really can’t go wrong.

Here’s my chocolate chip cookie recipe that I used to these scrumptious homemade ice cream sandwiches. - Continue Reading

Wait, I can’t type right now. I’m too busy dancing along to Pentatonix’s latest video ‘No’, a cover of Meghan Trainor’s song.

Okay, I literally had to switch songs just so I could write this post.

I’m not joking.

I absolutely love Pentatonix. I mean I’ve always loved acapella music but Pentatonix brings the vibrance of acapella to a whole new level. Their sheer capacity to create such exhilarating music without any instruments is a feat few can achieve. I can’t even begin to tell you how excited I was when I found out Pentatonix had a new video out.

Now, truth be told, I didn’t even know Meghan Trainor’s song “No” existed until I heard Pentatonix do their version of it (which happens to be absolutely awesome but you knew that already, right?!). Personally, I prefer Pentatonix’s version of the song. I love how beautifully Mitch, Kirstie, and Scott sing independently but also harmonize so well with Avi and Kevin adding all the ‘meat and potatoes’ to the song. There’s a bit more flare, a bit more style, and just well, just better overall really but then again, I could be just a bit biased.

Okay, if you haven’t watched this latest video ‘No’ yet, now’s your chance.

thingsthatwedo.com - baked oatmeal breakfast bars

Gosh I’m bored of the same old breakfast. I mean, we eat breakfast everyday and it’s usually a steady rotation of pancakes, rice pudding, the occasional oatmeal, and French toast of course but it gets a little monotonous after a while ergo my search for something a little different, nutritious but different.

Can’t remember how, can’t remember when but I stumbled across a few baked oatmeal recipes. I tweaked and I poked and I eventually came up with a version that I was happy with. My big kid loves these soft baked oatmeal breakfast bars, they’re nutritious, they’re hearty and so incredibly versatile.  Best part is, they’re also super easy to make. - Continue Reading
