thingsthatwedo.com pic - winter fun in the snow

Winter, yes, it’s here (and so obviously here I might add) but you know I’m okay with that because winters should be cold and there should be snow. It doesn’t mean I like shoveling and I’m certainly not a big fan of all that brown mushy stuff but hey, it’s winter.

It should come as no surprise then that I’ve got a few tricks up my sleeve to make winter a bit more bearable. If you’ve got a big pile of snow at home, why not grab some food colouring and have some fun? - Continue Reading

thingsthatwedo.com pic - pipecleaner flower

Well, look at that, it’s Valentine’s Day 2016. What are you doing today? Thankfully, it’s Sunday so I get to sleep in a bit, have breakfast a little later with the family, and spend some quality time just hanging out with the people I love.

I’m not a big fan of roses or chocolates (never have, never will). To me, they just seem so unnecessary. Give me some good food and kindness and that’s all I really need.Kindness and good food go a long way especially if it’s sincere. Being good to someone else also shouldn’t just happen on Feb. 14. I mean, really, what is THAT?

Every day should be a day to celebrate those around us and it shouldn’t cost a million dollars to do so. It’s in the little gestures we do for one another, the smiles, the hugs, kind words, a spontaneous chocolate chip cookie paired with a favourite hot green tea. Yep, that’s love at its finest.

So, on a day like today, I am particularly grateful for my loved ones.

Things to do: cherish your loved ones each and every day. You can just jazz up the appreciation a bit more today, maybe 2 chocolate chip cookies instead of one? :)

thingsthatwedo.com - smuckers pure raspberry jam

I can’t believe it, it’s February and I’m still talking about those thumbprint cookies except this time I’m focusing on the jam I successfully used to make decent looking thumbprint cookies. Some of you asked about the types of jam I used to make the thumbprint cookies so I thought I’d share.

By far, the thumbprint cookies that turned out the best were made with Smucker’s Pure Raspberry jam. See this thumbprint cookie? - Continue Reading

thingsthatwedo.com - LOC maria crepes belgian chocolate biscuits

I can’t believe I’m saying this but I actually like something with chocolate in it. Over the Christmas holidays a friend gave me this box of LOC Maria Crepes Belgian Chocolate Biscuits.

I loved the vibrant red box with its gold snowflakes but what I loved even more were the little biscuits themselves.

thingsthatwedo.com pic - snow 2014Look at that, February has arrived and so has the cold weather and snow. ThingsThatWeDo.com has now been consistently posting on an intermittent basis for about 2 months now and I think this new format is working out quite well.

Why?

Well, because life got too busy and I suddenly remembered the saying, ‘Quality not quantity.’ With the intermittent posting, I’ve renewed my love of writing, I’m better able to manage the stress of balancing work life with home life, and I have just a wee bit more time to spend with the family which is ultimately my top priority.

This decision certainly wasn’t easy to come by though. When my daughter and I had first started ThingsThatWeDo.com we envisioned daily posting about different things that interested us. Once she got older, she would then take over and write about whatever she desired. Of course, that was the vision but reality kicked in and modifications were made.

Modifications, now that’s a tricky word. As a word, it’s not particularly positive or negative but it certainly is a loaded word. My daughter and I see this modification of our original plan as a step in the right direction. After all, it’s much better to have a few good posts than to have a myriad of lackluster posts unfit for the human eye to read!

So, with January gone and February arriving at our doorsteps, let us all remember to be good to one another and to ourselves, to reflect about the workloads piled on our plates and to perhaps find modifications that might make life just a little bit more balanced and manageable.

Yes, that would be a great plan for February.
