Today’s product recall post is about as varied as they can be. There are computer battery packs, toy dolls that overheat, light bulbs that can fall on you, and cheese with the dreaded L word. OH, get this though – no drawstrings!

Recall – Canada and United States: ThinkPad notebook computer battery packs Reason for Recall: possible fire hazard. Not fun when these little battery packs overheat! Click here to read more.

Recall: Canada and United States – SATCO Products recalls LED Light Bulbs Reason for Recall: The identified products have been recalled because the metal part of the bulb can separate from the plastic piece which means the lamp can fall…on you…on whatever is underneath it. You know, that sort of dangerous stuff. Click here for more details and to see images.

Recall – Canada and United States: Walmart – My Sweet Baby Cuddle Care Doll Reason for Recall: this is one of those dolls that move, cry, and do a bunch of stuff except its internal electronic bits can also overheat and pose a burn hazard. Can you imagine being the child that plays with this doll? YIKES! Click here for more details.

Recall – United States: Oscar’s Smokehouse, Inc. – Cheese Spreads Reason for Recall: Listeria. Distbributed nationwide, there are 11 varieties that have been affected. Click here to read more.

It is time to do a makeup review. I don’t do many of them because quite frankly, I don’t step out of my comfort zone much when it comes to makeup.

Have you heard of Pure Anada Natural mineral foundation? For the longest time, I’ve stared at the makeup at my local health store but it’s hard to venture into new territory. I mean, how do I even know if something new will match my skin tone or if my skin will react to it or if it just makes me look more haggard?

Thanks to the staff at the store, I picked up the Pure Anada Natural mineral foundation. She found the shade that best matched my skin tone and raved about Pure Anada so I took a leap of faith.

Wow, you know April is near when Earth Hour arrives. The only difference is, this year Earth Hour is freezing cold! I don’t recall it being this cold for Earth Hour. I seriously almost missed Earth Hour because it was so cold.

Sigh… Earth Hour. We all know what it’s about and we all know we’re going to do our part. But, you know what I wish? I wish companies would think about the Earth more. You know what bugs me? I absolutely hate it when I walk past stores with the AC going and their doors are wide open. What a complete waste of energy. Big blinking billboards also drive me bonkers. I mean, do I really need to see those giant display cases everywhere I go? Gosh, such an absolute waste of energy consumed for NO GOOD REASON. TVs everywhere, in shopping malls, hallways, restaurants, all unnecessary and again, a total waste.

Imagine if all that could shut off on a regular basis. Imagine how much more energy we would have saved. As consumers, if you have an issue with something, you should speak up. Collectively, we make a difference.

Today, we start with Earth Hour and with every minute after that, let’s all move one more step forward to a greener, more energy efficient world.

OMG, I can’t wait. It’s Friday. It’s the end of March and April is literally right around the corner. I haven’t seen snow this week so that’s a promising sign that Spring might actually be on its way. Sure, there’s still snow on the grass but hey, the temperature has been a far cry away for super sub zero weather.

I’ve been back at work now for a good solid 2 weeks and the big kid and I have been doing our gratitude lists. So far, so good. My right brain has been finely balanced by my left brain. I’ve got ‘work’ stuff floating in my head and my daughter and I really enjoy thinking of all the things we’re grateful for.

The most interesting thing about this process has been to see what my daughter comes up with. Sometimes we talk about what we’ll write but most times she comes up with her own ideas. Right off the bat, she was quick to mention her family, food, shelter, and water. She’s mentioned her favourite toys, toilet paper (hey, that’s essential and I put that down on my list too), and the air that we breathe.

We’re going to continue to write our gratitude lists to keep us focused on those positive thoughts and build those radiant neural networks. Here’s to a great weekend full of joy. Let’s all enjoy the last weekend in March and bring in April with a big giant smile on our faces!

Hurry up April, let’s get this Spring party started!

You see this jar of peanut butter. You see the name. It says Family’s Best. Question: do you really think it’s best?

The hubby picked it up at a local health food store mainly because the selection was limited and he didn’t want a flavoured PB.

He comes home with Family’s Best organic creamy peanut butter and of course, my big kid and I read the ingredient list. Guess what we found?

Am I a fan of chocolate? Nope. Do I have it occasionally? Yep. Am I a fan though? Nope.

Never have, never will. Sure, some chocolate I like but while other people happily chow down on the entire bar, I might take a bite or two before I’ve had enough.

Recently, I was at my local Loblaws and there was a sale on these PC Decadent flourless chocolate cakes. I can’t remember what the original price is but it was on sale for $3.99 and my kid likes chocolate so I decided to pick it up and see if it was any good.

Guess what?

For our loyal readers at ThingsThatWeDo.com, I think it’s safe to say you all know my strengths do not lie in baking. It’s something I learn to be semi-decent in but it is definitely not something I’m innately good at it. So, for folks like me if you need to bake or you want to bake, you need all the help you can get and that is where Indigo Packaged Goodness baking powder comes in extremely handy.

I’ve mentioned the Indigo Packaged Goodness baking powder a few times here and there and way back in December 2011 I mentioned their baking powder and baking soda. However, I thought it was worthy of an update post because back then I just didn’t have decent photos of my baked goods (guess my photo taking has improved!).

Now, I don’t know if all the credit goes to Indigo Packaged Goodness baking powder for my baking success but one thing is for sure, since I started using it, I’ve seen results and it’s not like I got a new oven or that I’ve suddenly become a miracle baker. So, I have to give the Indigo Packaged Goodness baking powder some recognition for all the goodies I’ve made recently.

So, what makes Indigo Packaged Goodness baking powder a little different from everyone else?

Creativity is everywhere: that is the theme of today’s post. Take a look at the image on the left. Do you see it?

My child saw it and that’s why I’m posting it because this section of the ThingsThatWeDo.com website was created because of her ideas. She wanted a section of the site to feature creativity and I agreed that it would be a great addition.

Reason: because ThingsThatWeDo.com is about all the little things our family does, uses, and more and creativity is definitely one thing we try to celebrate and respect.

So, do you see it yet?

Hopefully by now you’ll see the side profile of a face in this half eaten pancake. That’s what my child exclaimed one wee morning as she was chomping away on her pancake, “Hey mom! Look, can you see the face?”

Do you see it yet?

The face looks like it’s surprised with a wide “oh!” expression.

That’s the cool thing about creativity. Respect creativity, nourish and watch it flourish. Thinking divergently (is this even a word?), thinking creativity = assets for the future.

Goal for today: to focus more on the positive, to nourish creativity, and see rainbows even on cloudy days.

Yep, that’s my goal for today. What’s yours?

One of the things you know we do here at ThingsThatWeDo.com is feature product recalls. Believe you me, I don’t like posting them because it means more items recalled but hey, it’s information we all need to know and share with others. Read below!

Recall – Canada: More Drawstrings (of course!) I don’t know if this will ever end. Groupe Sarah Inc. – Oxygen recalls hoodies and jackets for children

Recall – Canada: Kirkland Signature brand Grilled Chicken Breast Strips Reason for Recall: Listeria. You’re kidding me, right? First their sliced fruit and now this? Click here to read more.

Recall: Canada – Helados La Tapatia brand Frozen Novelties Reason for Recall: Listeria. I don’t really get what these food items are but if it’s got listeria, it’s bad. Click here for more details and to see images.

Recall – Canada and United States: IKEA Canada – Children’s Bed Canopies Reason for Recall: Strangulation hazard. Yikes! Click here to read more.

Recall – Canada: Ganz Grumpy Cat Plush Toys and Key Clips Reason for Recall: choking hazard because the eyes might detach. For the record, I had no idea they made Grumpy Cat plush toys. Didn’t realize Grumpy Cat was that popular?! Click here for more details.

Recall – United States: Playtex Nurser Deluxe Double Electric Breast Pump Reason for Recall: possible electric shock from the AC/DC power adaptor. Recalled items were manufactured from November 2012 through July 2013. Click here for more details.

Yesterday was the first day of Spring minus the nice Spring weather. Golly gee whiz, I cannot wait for the warmer weather to kick in even though I know it’ll mean allergy season for me. But, let’s talk business for a minute. The best part about today is that I’ve successfully finished my first week back at work after having a week off.

Trust me, this is an accomplishment. All week, my right brain has been kept in check. There was no time for irrational thoughts. I barely had time to breathe which under the circumstances I am totally okay with.

On another note, I was talking to a gal pal of mine, one I’ve known for years about how far off my brain can get and she suggested I start a gratitude list. Every day, I’m supposed to write 3 things I’m grateful for and they can’t repeat. In so doing, I force my brain to focus on positive thoughts and create more positive neural pathways.

I decided I’d give it a try but I wouldn’t do it myself. I talked to my daughter and she agreed. We just started doing our gratitude lists and I’ll let you all know how it’s going. The funny thing is, I always thought our family was very grateful for what we have (not that we have a lot but that’s the point, right? It’s not how much you own or have but being grateful for what little you may have and appreciating it all) but maybe somewhere along the way, I’ve let my right brain’s capacity to worry get the better of me.

Let’s see how this gratitude list turns out. In the meantime, our family is going to enjoy this first weekend of Spring even if it doesn’t have Spring like weather!
