Yep, the weather is getting cooler. I can tell because my skin is close to screaming. My skin is getting dry and while I have my existing repertoire of skin care products this is a prime opportunity for me to test out a skin lotion and see what it’ll do in these dire circumstances. I mean, how bad can my skin get in the summer?

For today’s product test: Live Clean Exotic Nectar Argan Oil replenishing body lotion. I leaned towards this product mainly because the previous Live Clean product that I tested worked on my skin (it was unscented). The Live Clean Exotic Nectar Argan Oil replenishing body lotion also happened to be on sale and I had heard from others that argan oil is supposed to be really good. I’m not much for scented products so it’ll be interesting to see how this fares in our home.

A few weeks ago I did a review on the L’Ancentre extra sharp cheddar cheese. I loved its richness, its sharpness, and its signature twang. I tend to write reviews but I rarely let companies know because I write them as opinion pieces for other fellow consumers. Yet, lo and behold the folks at L’Ancentre connected with me and offered some of their products for me to try.

I graciously accepted and couldn’t be happier when the goodies arrived. I love cheese and butter but I love good quality cheese and butter even more. I can’t wait to try all these different products and let you all know how each one fares. Fingers crossed they live up to my L’Ancentre expectations. After trying their L’Ancentre extra sharp cheddar cheese I’ve got high hopes for the rest of their product line but those are big shoes to fill!

Bon Appétit!

A few weeks ago, I posted that our home grown tomato season was over. The weather had gotten cooler, the tomato plants looked like they were on their last limb so I was pretty much convinced that it was ‘bye bye home grown tomatoes’.

Well…then the weather got warmer and then it got cooler and then it got warmer again. It rained a lot and then the sun came back out and so did the warmer weather. Next thing you know, I take a peek and we’ve got these ripe little red tomatoes growing!

Take a look!

I’m shocked and in awe of Mother Nature. One minute, nothing. Next minute, I’ve got these cute little decadent morsels in my own little garden and I don’t even HAVE a green thumb (remember the cucumber plants that never made it?).
Moments like this remind me to enjoy, appreciate, and celebrate the little things in life. Life isn’t going to get any slower so why not take a breather?

I’m going to wash these tomatoes now.

Who needs a flashier title than that? The act speaks for itself.

Note: I did not go on this baking adventure because I wanted to. I went on this baking excursion because my daughter wanted to. I, as the involved parent, chose to say yes because that’s what involved parents do. I, as the involved parent, choose to be the best role model I can be even though I know my baking capacity isn’t exactly my strength. However, I can certainly try.

Now, this didn’t just magically happen today. Oh no, I’m not that spontaneously capable. For starters, I don’t even know if I have any flour in the home (that in and of itself should speak volumes). Anyhoo, my daughter mentioned a few days ago that she’d like to do some baking. She asks if we can do some baking and with the weather being nice and cool, I say ‘Sure, why not?’

The next few days, we spend some time trying to decide what recipes we can use. Now, don’t laugh but we ended up picking a recipe from the book ‘Better Baby Food’. It was a gift when my daughter was first born and although I’ve only used a handful of the recipes, the book is near and dear to me because I associate it with my kid’s baby days.

A few weeks ago, I did a review on the Cocovie coconut jam. At the time, I loved it but with the temperature fluctuations, my lovely Cocovie coconut jam separated leaving its coconut oil goodness floating on the top and rendering me helpless.

At that time, the lovely folks at Cocovie told me I could combine the two again once the weather warms up a bit and it would be back to its original glory. Well, I am happy to give you all an update on my Cocovie coconut jam.

Guess what?

From time to time, ThingsThatWeDo.com gets products from different companies to try. Look what came in the mail!

Allow me to introduce you to the Enjoy Life Decadent Soft Baked Bars! I first made a connection with the folks at Enjoy Life because of their Enjoy Life Mini chocolate chips. I’ve seen these Enjoy Life Decadent Soft Baked Bars in stores but just haven’t gotten around to testing them out yet.

Thank you Enjoy Life for sending these Enjoy Life Decadent Soft Baked Bars my way. There are 4 different bars: Cinnamon Bun, S’mores, Chocolate Sunbutter, and Cherry Cobbler. They all look really yummy and based on names alone, they certainly seem decadent too.

Now, we’re always excited and grateful to companies for sending us new products to sample but does it sway our opinion of the product? Nope.

Reason: because I think that would be an injustice to show a product blanket love or approval simply because it was free. To do so would mean I didn’t have enough faith in the products or the company to give them a fair and honest opinion. I highly doubt Enjoy Life has anything to worry about given my past experiences with their goodies (if you haven’t tried them yet, you have got to try the Enjoy Life Plentils – so good!).

Anyhoo…can’t wait to start testing out these Enjoy Life Decadent Soft Baked Bars. My daughter and I are currently eyeballing the Chocolate Sunbutter bars and she’s got first dibs to test out the S’mores bars. I’ll also need to round up feedback from others so stay tuned!

In the meantime, you may want to read my earlier post on the Enjoy Life Mini Chocolate Chips. Click here to read my original review of their Mini Chocolate Chips

Oh and of course, their Plentils…I reviewed them a while back too. Have a read when you get a chance!

You know when you start to feel zapped and over stretched. You’ve been running at supersonic speed for just a tad too long and now you’re body is telling you to SLOW DOWN.

Yep. That’s where I’m at. In fact, that’s where the whole family is at.

With the start of the new school year, my kid has been zonked despite a consistent bed time schedule. There’s so much to learn and even though we don’t over program her with a zillion extracurricular activities, she’s still zonked and rightly so. There are new friendships to establish, new neural connections being formed all day long, and daily physical activity. Good nutritious food, sleep, and a good routine has sustained her so far but she’s reaching her max.

We, the parents, have been equally busy. At the parent level we’ve been on the go, going, going, going at work, at home, and we feel like we’ve reached our warp speed. Go any faster and I think we’ll all just flop on the floor into marshmallow goo.

Our decision: this weekend became a weekend to rejuvenate and recharge. I hit the health food store in search of new products that’ll help us get past humps like this. I ended up getting some new things to try like oat tea (super cool, wait until I get a chance to write this review!) and probiotics for kids (again, super cool). There’s more, but you’ll have to read future posts for the rest of them.

In the meantime, let’s all take a deep breath and greet this week (aka Monday aka the new start of yet another busy work week) with a big rejuvenated smile, shall we?
