One thing our family will do this year, as in years past, is participate in Earth Hour. At 8:30pm, we’ll be enjoying family time with our lights off. If we can time our family plans just right, we should be in bed, chatting about our day and discussing how we can make the Earth a better place to live. I mean, do you really need lights to appreciate your family? - Continue Reading

Coming home in the afternoon with my child and it’s obvious that the Spring magic is happening. Everywhere we look, we see buds are poking out of once dormant trees and there are flowers coming from once cold earth. We’ve been having some pretty crazy fluctuating temperatures here but it’s nice to know that Spring’s magic hasn’t lost its touch.

Now that my child is 6 years old, she’s becoming more involved in the background work of ThingsThatWeDo.com. As we discuss all the signs of Spring, it is my daughter who is the first one to traipse through the greenery and capture these images of Mother Nature’s handiwork. - Continue Reading

A while back, I did a review on one of two Revlon ColorStay eye shadow quads that I had purchased. Back then, I had promised a follow up review on the second pack which is something I often like to do because that way I can do a better comparison across 2 similar products. Well, it’s been a while but I finally managed to test drive the Blushed Wines colour scheme so we’ll see how this one works for this mommy blogger at ThingsThatWeDo.com.

It’s March 28 and it’s Wednesday. We’ve had a busy week and our family is exhausted. In times past, we would have gone out to eat, spent money at a restaurant that we didn’t need to spend, all because we were too lazy or tired to cook at home. Restaurant food though, becomes an expensive habit but it also becomes a little mundane and boring. Eventually, the food notes just start to all feel the same. It just becomes ‘restaurant food’ even though we choose a variety of foods from the menu. Basically, it just becomes another rut in the food cycle. - Continue Reading

There is no other way for me to say it so I wanted to be frank and give you all fair warning that this is a hilariously funny joke book for older kids who are now in that phase where everything related to bugs, the toilet, and nose junk are hilarious. Well, that’s the phase my 6 year old is in so when I saw this Fun on the Run Sticker Joke Book at the book store, I knew she’d get a kick out of it. It was on sale at under $5 and a quick glance through showed me that there was more to this Fun on the Run Sticker Joke Book than ick alone!

Call it modeling clay for kids or playdough for kids, but I forgot how much fun this stuff was. My kid has used playdough all her life but I can’t say it was ever her favourite activity. She went through phases of wanting to make playdough and we’d use it sometimes but it wasn’t ever a daily occurrence since she gets to pick what she wants to do at home. However, with a recommendation from a friend, I picked up these modeling clay kits from our local Dollarama (awesome dollar store) and was absolutely amazed at how cool it was. What exactly makes these kits so special?

We’re all busy parents and sometimes, it is so easy to get caught in the daily hustle and bustle but if we just slow down a bit and take time to listen, really listen to our children, it’s amazing the little gems we hear. Turns out, our children know a lot more than you realize.

My Child: The Thinker

Now, I’ve always known my child is a thinker. Even when she was a young infant, I’d observe her and you could see the wheels turning at lightning speed. I can think back to conversations of old when she’d pick up on messages behind songs or stories that I never even realized were there.
