My Child’s Recent Interest in Angelina Ballerina

For those of you who follow the blog (I seem to say this quite often), you’ll know that my child and I recently went to watch the Angelina Ballerina musical. We both loved it and it’s become the hot topic at home. At the same time, as an informed parent, I want to be able to extend her learning beyond just the musical itself. I’m mindful that literacy is key for a child her age and the Angelina Ballerina musical CD has helped her to stretch her comprehension skills, introducing new words and concepts into her vocabulary that we normally wouldn’t use.  However, I want more so I was quite happy when we found some Angelina Ballerina books to add to the learning mix. This book review is for the Angelina Ballerina book titled, “The Perfect Party”.

I’m not a big fan of traditional overly sweet cakes because I find the flavour of the cake gets masked by the over indulgence of sugar in the icing. I often cringe at the pure coating of sugar that’s on top of most decorated birthday cakes.   Forget the thought of cavities for a moment but just the thought of consuming all that sugar is enough to make me want to run the other way. - Continue Reading

If you’ve been following my blog reviews, you’ll know I’m quite the big fan of most PC products mainly because to date, most things I’ve tried from the President’s Choice line has been very promising and worth the money spent.

You’ll also know that I’m often on the lookout to try new products so I was quite excited to see these new little containers of PC Milk Chocolate Covered Butter Toffee with Roasted Almonds show up at my local Loblaws grocery store. I mean, I love the crunch of toffee in general and I love almonds and I like chocolate so what could possibly go wrong, right?

For those of you who have been following our blog, you’ll know that way back when, we purchased a jar of Nutiva Organic Coconut Manna. For those of you not familiar with this delicious decadent coconut spread, it’s rich and decadent much like a nut butter.

Anyway, we’ve been eating it off and on because we’ve tried so many products that I have to switch it up to make sure they all get used (although, there are some that I’ve just trashed because they’re not worth eating, but this  Nutiva Organic Coconut Manna is not one of them!). I’ve eaten the  Nutiva Organic Coconut Manna on top of a toasted bagel with honey drizzled on top and it is absolutely divine.

Recently, I also discovered a new way to eat the  Nutiva Organic Coconut Manna: as a dip for my raw almonds. Mmmm delicious! A little bit of  Nutiva Organic Coconut Manna and some honey on top, scoop it up with a raw almond and you’ve got food magic!

If you have a jar of  Nutiva Organic Coconut Manna at home, try it with some almonds and see for yourself!

During a recent grocery shopping trip, my daughter spotted this new product on the shelves. Pepperidge Farms has come out with Goldfish Grahams, cute little goldfish shaped graham crackers each with the signature Pepperidge Farm goldfish smile. Hey, it’s a new product, I read the ingredient list and it wasn’t atrocious so I bought the bag to let her try them. We bought the Honey flavoured Goldfish grahams.  So, the question is: do they measure up to your graham cracker expectations?

One day, I was out and about and happened to get thirsty. I want something to drink but I don’t want coffee (for a change). I want something cold and soothing and I don’t just want apple juice or orange juice. I’m in the mood for something different probably because every time I try something new I can review it and let you all know if it’s any good or not.

Well, that entire prologue led me to Oasis Cranberry Lemonade mainly because I’d never seen it before. I see pink lemonade and the regular lemonade a lot but had never seen cranberry lemonade before so I decided it was worth trying at least once. The question is, will I ever buy Oasis Cranberry Lemonade ever again?

Children’s book review: Oh Amelia Bedelia!

I couldn’t recall the Frog and Toad series from my own children (ie. during my recent blog about the Frog and Toad books by Arnold Lobel, click here to read) but when I saw Amelia Bedelia at book store, I instantly remembered the name. Do I remember the stories? NOPE but the name Amelia Bedelia brought back very fond memories and I instantly decided this was a must-get book for my child.  Here’s a children’s book review specifically on the book: Amelia Bedelia Bakes Off by Herman Parish.

I don’t know how children do it but somehow, weeks ago on Sept. 5th, right before bedtime, she asks me, “Mooooooooooooooooom, when’s the first day of Fall?” She yells this from her room to the one I’m in. It’s close to 9pm at night, she’s supposed to be sleeping. Really? How am I supposed to know the answer at that moment and do you really want to know the answer or are you just stalling so you won’t fall asleep?

I decide to give her the benefit of the doubt and said, ‘I don’t know but I’ll try and find out for you and tell you tomorrow.” Her reply, “Okay mom but remember to remind me tomorrow.” Mine, “Okay, no problem. Good night!!” She replies with the good nights and then all of a sudden we hear her say, “I think it’s September 23.”

HUH? Where’d she come up with September 23rd? So, now I have to ask since we haven’t mentioned it and prior to today, she’s never mentioned it either.

So, now I have to ask, “How do you know?”
My child’s reply, “I just know. I looked at my calendar and I think that’s what it says. On the 23rd, it says AUTUMN.”

The husband overhears all this and does the quick Google search and we’re shocked. She’s right. It’s September 23rd.

So, long story short: enjoy the first day of fall everyone regardless of where you are because it means you’re one step closer to winter which means you’re one step closer to Spring. You see, I’m a cup half full kinda person, ;) .

Moral of the story: your children are more observant than you think.
